So. The Wallabies play Georgia. Tomorrow. Georgia the nation. Not the balmy state with questionable history.

Much loved sport, the product exclusively of private schools, of men who wear leather patches on their tweed jackets, vote conservative... has died.

Killed like so many of our young men in WW1, on the fields of France. The body has been collected off the ground. Burnt. Cremated. The Ashes have been put in a Welsh toby jug and sent home on a specially commissioned RAAF Jet straight to the Gap at Watsons Bay where it will join all the others that couldn't handle it all. The Ashes spread on the dark and grey waters of the South Pacific Ocean.
