    The Ashes: Front Bar

So the wattles are out, golden and glorious, the jacaranda flowers are in bloom, skies are blue and we're off to the beach most days but not between the sacred hours of 10am and 6pm.
The Ashes are on like Donkey Kong!

Summer is here and already we've lost our captain to a tawdry sexting scandal. What's with young men and dick pics? Women don't want them.
Never warmed to Paine. Too provincial. Tasmanian. To understand that to be captain is the highest office in the land.
Thankfully we have a New South Welshman again in Pat Cummins to lead.

Poms will be tough with a fresh Ben Stokes. So what are you looking forward to see this Summer? Who should we keep an eye on?

    Wasn't Ponting a Tasmanian?
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

Launceston. Even more provincial than Hobart. Likes greyhound racing.

Welcome Ash. Pull up a stool and grab a foaming amber.

News just in. Ben has sore arm.

        3 REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

        If you're English
        ______________________

The kookaburra brand cricket ball has a new plastic inner lining, 2 coats of lacquer to remain hard and able to be swung longer etc. The seam stitches will remain high.

The summer will be wetter as the weather cycle of La Nina continues to bring rain to the Eastern seaboard. That's possibly 4 tests if Hobart gets one where English conditions will prevail.

        Ben Stokes.

Bad news. Anderson out. Broad out.

Good news. England win toss. Will bat.

            First ball in 10 minutes.

            SO THE SUMMER BEGINS

first ball from Mitchell Starc to Rory Burns.

BOWLED HIM! Yes. Swings a mile. Takes out leg and middle after swinging in from wide of leg stump! Golden duck for Burns.

            What a ball

I no longer have Sky Sports as I needed to economise. The BBC were showing 60 mins of highlights of home tests bit I'm not sure if they're doing the Ashes.
I used to be the biggest cricket fan ever since I was a very young boy. I became the official scorer for my father's team when I was only 10. Every summer I'd be glued to test cricket. I'm afraid the advent of 20/20 killed it for me.

You're up late. Midnight? Yeah, too much silly cricket played all year round. But ever since Headingley and Stokes, test cricket is back. NZ and India are both as good as us and yours. Malan and Hameed are settling in ...

I'll probably be up for another hour yet. Since I got made redundant in August my body clock is erratic. I've always been a night owl. I can remember as a kid trying to stay awake listening to overseas tests on my transistor radio in bed.

                    Hold the front page!

Just checked on TV coverage over here, and the Ashes are on BT, which I do still have!

                            147 all out.
This is test cricket not snooker!

I watched the first session. It's going to be a looooong Ashes series.
As a former bowler myself (right-arm timid), I have to say the Aussies were exceptional with the ball.
