    The Karaoke Thread

I don't know what's gottin' in to me in the past month, but I've been doing a lot of karaokeing lately. Despite objections from some people. (they are subsiding).

There are several cool places nearby and I've checked out nearly all of them. More seem to be popping up.

I really enjoy it and it feels like I'm coming into Good Voice or whatever the right phrase is. Anyway, I've done 5 Yessongs so far. (waiting for more to come out). The fans always dig Roundabout. My list is over 200 songs long and I've done less than half of them. Lately, I've been trying to fill in the blanks. Here are some of the latest I've done that seemed to turn out pretty good:

    My God - Jethro Tull

Takin' Care Of Business - Bachman Turner Overdrive

    It Can Happen - Yes

Rock And Roll Band - Boston

Eli's Coming - Three Dog Night

    Good Morning Starshine - Hair

    Beginnings - Chicago

Is the Three Dog Night song Laura Nyro's Eli's Coming?
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

        New KJ tonight! I did:

Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? - Chicago
        (my first favorite song)

We Are The Champions - Queen

One Toke Over The Line - what's his name and Shipley
(the KJ did a spontaneous duet with me )

Here I am doing what might be called karaoke. Fifteen years ago! My how tempus fugit. I was lucky enough to have the lovely and talented, Yumi Hara Calkwell over to my house for a sing-a-long when she was in town. She also jammed with our local Yes cover band, Parallels. The bass player and his wife are on the far couch by the window. Me and my son drove out to his house in the Sacramento valley (we picked up the infamous queen of Yesfans, Sheerah!) and they played all kinds of cool Yessongs including epics with Yumi on vocals!. They did Gates Of Delirium!

Yumi and my daughter shared their love for Hello Kitty. My son was well into his Yes indoctrination. Into The Lens was his favorite Yessong at the time! I had a bit more hair at the time and more 'roll'. I 'rolled' about as much as I do now.. My kids are in college now.

Enjoyed that. She's good. Homely setup. Also one of my favourite Yessongs. Very subtle, understated back vox too. Good job. Love a good singalong around the piano.

When I was young at uni, our local pub had a piano and a friend of ours would slink in and play the current big hits on the radio that week, that he had quickly learned. Cool vibe. Surry Hills. Hip times. 😎

Thanks, Mate! We need to shut me up for at least the next few days. Kansas and Blue Oyster Cult concert in two days!! It's in a casino. so hopefully they play some good, meaty sets. Kansas' 50th should be a full set, you would think.
