The Band’s guitarist and primary songwriter collaborated with Bob Dylan and penned “The Weight,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” and “Up on Cripple Creek,…

I always loved The Band and Robbie's central role in it. RIP Robbie and peace and love to his family, friends and fans.

Just Garth Hudson left now 😢
Guitarist-songwriter-singer Robbie Robertson, who led the Canadian-American group the Band to rock prominence in the 1970s and worked extensively with Bob Dylan and Martin Scorsese, has died. He wa…

Sad that another very influential rock legend has passed.
Robertson’s/The Band’s music was, to me, a million miles away from Yes music. And so I don’t think they were a giant influence on me. But - like so many musicians, probably many of whom are here on Yesfans - over the years I’ve played the music of The Band on stage many times, and I’ve seen how much my fellow musicians and the audiences adored Robertson’s music
        .
I also remember that Tony Kaye was a HUGE fan of the band , just as Yes were becoming successful, and , while I think Wakeman brought something very important to what ultimately became Yes…a little bit of the original blues/rock flavor of Yes was washed away when Kaye left in the 70’s.

His 1987 solo album is massively underrated. One of my favorites from the 1980s that had the Lanois magic touch. Not a bad song on the album.

            Not on Yes' payroll.

First heard this on a jukebox playin' 8Ball in a divey bar down at The Rocks in old colonial town by the Harbour Bridge.

              Fell instantly in love

This guy could have been a great actor. Did he ever act in film or TV?

I'm not sure about acting but he was a good friend and collaborator of Martin Scorsese and wrote the music for quite a few of his movies, including the very underrated "King of Comedy".

Huge loss for the music world. There are 2 documentaries that are must-see if you like Robbie: "Rumble", about the contribution of Native People to popular music and "Once We Were Brothers" about The Band.

The Band was so different from the other artists of the late 60's when it released its first album. But few records have aged so well and have been so influential. It's amazing to think that a superstar like Clapton really, really wanted to join that group. They wisely turned him down. They didn't need him, they were just so friggin' great.

And then, there's "The Basement Tapes" and one of my all-time favorite Dylan songs, "You Ain't Going Nowhere".

Yep. Casino. Raging Bull. The Irishman. And soon the Killers of the Flower Moon. Starrin' DeCaprio and DeNiro. Have seen the trailer. Looks good. DeNiro full on evil mode. A film about Native Americans on the White fellas' frontier. His mother was Mohawk.

Interestin' Canadian guy who wrote about the South from a Southerner's perspective so his Southern bandmate could sing. The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down. The Weight.

Gotta memory that he was in a film. Off to wiki

OK. Only 1980's "Carny" about Carnival workers.

                    Amazing CV

I watched The Last Waltz just a few weeks ago. Presently listening to Big Pink.
I've often wondered why none of the San Francisco bands and musicians were playing in the Last Waltz concert, considering it was at Winterland, and Bill Graham was the promotor and organiser? Not just the Dead, but New Riders of the Purple Sage, Quicksilver, Airplane, Santana, et al...?

He co-wrote the screenplay, based on his experiences working with traveling carnivals. It's a weird movie but I actually think it's pretty good in a b-movie kind of way.
