  • Sinead O'Connor, singer/songwriter, 56

    😢
The Nothing Compares 2 U singer sold millions of albums and was praised for her activism.
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

It is tragic. It really surprised me when I read that she was born only a few months after me. That's way too young.

            HE MOVED THROUGH THE FAIR

            Just a jaw droppin' performance.

Proud that she fought to walk down her own road.

Sad that she had to bear the worst of humanity.

Glad she lived long enough to leave the world an unforgettable legacy.

Proud she had an impact for Ireland to face it's darkest shame.

Remember an RTE Late Late show interview with Ryan Turbidy as she calmly and intelligently explained how she
converted to Islam. She spoke up against the Catholic church in Ireland which she described
as slightly less autocratic than the Iranian regime.

I don’t know her catalog much beyond the first two albums, but those are two really good albums.

Nothing Compares 9:00pm, Saturday July 29
                Sky Documentaries

"Scheduled before the death of Sinead O’Connor earlier this week, the Irish singer and activist speaks in a new interview for this fascinating documentary, which recalls the five years from 1987 that saw her find worldwide fame. ā€œThe reason I got into music was [as a form of] therapy, which is why it was such a shock for me to become a pop star. It’s not what I wanted. I just wanted to scream,ā€ she says at one point – just one example of how her words might now take on an even more poignant meaning."
