Just saw this . She was an extraordinary talent, and I am truly sad to know that she has gone. She supposedly had a new album in the works, so I'm hoping that it will still get released. And most of all, I hope she is at peace. She struggled a lot in her life, including tilting at several windmills, and I really hope she is in a better place now.

        No windmills.

        The Catholic Church?
Her criticisms have been borne out in last 5 years with shockin' revelations of abuse by Priests, Magdalene laundries, orphanages. Paedophile priests moved on to other parishes.

        Me too movement?
Her criticisms have all been validated by other women. Prince? Ask Kim Basinger.

As for the American anthem? Depends where you live.

I meant no disrespect to her by saying she tilted at windmills; I merely meant that she was taking on such sacred cows that it couldn't help but blow back in her face. I admired her for her fearlessness as much as for her music talent.

None of the reports on her death mention a cause.

We all know she had some mental health issues, and attempted suicide after her son died. With no real physical health issues, other than a hysterectomy for endometriosis, it's possible that the cause of her death may not have been a natural one.

Death has been on my mind, as my wife and I watched a neighbor literally drink himself to death. We tried to prevent it, but he was a full fledged adult, and our attempts were in vain.

Alcoholism and mental health have a lot in common. May Sinead rest in peace at last. At least he lived a life she was proud of.

Her “Nothing Compares” was better than either of the Prince versions I’ve heard (one of which, with Rosie Gaines, may have been inspired by the O’Connor version). To me that says a ton.

                  Re: Cause of death

More detailed articles are coming out, with the caveat "The death is not being treated as suspicious". She was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy will be conducted. The results won't be known for several weeks.

For once I agree with Morrisey.

In this article he points out how the media puts Sinead O'Connor on a pedestal now that she's gone, but rarely stepped up to accept, promote, or praise her while alive; the contrary - they demeaned and criticized her, while praising cookie-cutter generic Pop Music youngsters with nothing substantive to say with their music.

The headline is trash though, and gives an impression that he hates the coverage of O'Connor, inferring she may not have been worthy of the coverage; this is not the case.

I've always found it puzzling that the authors of articles rarely get to write the headlines for their article.

Morrissey ripped media outlets and the record industry for not supporting Sinead O'Connor who died in July 2023.

She released 10 studio albums between 1987 and 2014, plus an EP in 1997 (after the release of her fourth album). And 34 singles.

As an independent artist, that is impressive.

Here's her first music video, Troy, released in 1987. It was also the first single released from her debut album, The Lion and the Cobra. She wrote 5 of the 9 tracks on the album, and has co-writing credit on the rest of the tracks.

                    .

Her final single, The Trouble of the World, was released in 2020.

                      Nothing Compares
                      9:00pm, Saturday July 29
                      Sky Documentaries

"Scheduled before the death of Sinead O’Connor earlier this week, the Irish singer and activist speaks in a new interview for this fascinating documentary, which recalls the five years from 1987 that saw her find worldwide fame. “The reason I got into music was [as a form of] therapy, which is why it was such a shock for me to become a pop star. It’s not what I wanted. I just wanted to scream,” she says at one point – just one example of how her words might now take on an even more poignant meaning."
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.
