Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

As far as Bacharach covers go, a particular favourite of mine is The Stranglers Walk On By. Very Doors-ish.

A giant. To be sure. Remember a telly special he did with Babs. He sang a few himself. Low and husky. Limited singer in some ways but you can't beat the songwriter singin' his own song and knowin' the emotion in it.

Bacharach. Dozens of hit songs. Hundreds of songs recorded by the most popular artists of the day.

But he and Mack David (Hal David's brother) also wrote (uncredited) the theme song for the 1958 horror film THE BLOB, starring Steve McQueen.

The recording was given to session singer Bernie Knee (singing ALL the vocals), and released under the fictitious band name The Five Blobs. It reached # 33 on the Billboard charts.

and even a bit cheesy 😉

Imagine attendin' a Malibu cocktail party with Angie and Burt. After a few martinis, Burt casually slinks over to the piano and begins to play as Dionne starts to hum the openin' bars...bliss

Not cheesy in that era, though. We only say that now. BB was classy as shit!

His version of "This Guy's In Love With You" forever remains the best.

Agreed. His stammers, pauses are just incredible. Breath intakes. Enunciation. Tender. I also love him singin' Alfie. 😀
