    Tom Verlaine, songwriter, guitarist, 73

One of the best guitarists of his, or of any generation, and a brilliant writer. Dark days are these.

I shall listen to the brilliant Marquee Moon and his first solo album tomorrow.
New York group, which broke up in 1978, best known for Marquee Moon and whose singer-songwriter also worked with Patti Smith

Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

Aww man, another one gone. Tom Verlaine with Television, regulars of the NY punk/new wave CBGB's scene back in the late 70's. Marquee Moon is one of those genre-defining moments. RIP.

He and Jeff Beck were among my very favorites. I love unique voices, and the two of them could be identified by listening to them tune up. Rough start to the year for music lovers.

Marquee Moon is a masterpiece. Sucks that he's gone. Brilliant guitarist.
