    Power Walking

Another power-walk this afternoon, same route as yesterday, but oddly 0.04 miles further, though an insignificant difference. Pleased with my better pace, and I jogged a little. No ill-effects either.
Listened to two history podcasts as I went: one on Milton, and one on the Borgias. Nice to hear someone I know from Leicester Uni name-checked on the Milton one.
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

I'll take a break tomorrow, though I'll do some weights and stretching, then do longer walks on Sunday and Monday.

Great job Ash! I love walking fast. We live on a quiet road that we can walk on without issue like it's a big bike path and we have trails through the woods on our property which are good fun. There are all sorts of other great places to walk in this area and we even have the American Discovery Trail coming through here just a couple of miles from where we live. Last week or so I saw someone walking with a backpack on ADT route, talked to him for a bit and turns out he started on the Golden Gate Bridge last spring and is heading to the Atlantic Ocean. He seemed to be taking his time though...

A longer power-walk this afternoon. Pleased with the overall pace, nice and consistent. It's one of my old running routes. It felt good.
I was accompanied by two podcasts downloaded from the BBC Sounds app, one about Keith Jarrett's Köln concert, and one about Leonard Bernstein conducting Beethoven's 9th at the Brandenburg Gate in December 1989, both 30 mins each. I started a third about the history of sex toys (!), but finished my walk before I'd gotten very far into it.

What app are you using to track your walks?

MapMyWalk. I used to use the running version when I was a regular runner.

Thanks. I want to find one that will track my hikes in the woods on unmarked trails. I'm mostly interested in distance traveled, but the elevation changes would be cool too.

We use AllTrails for capturing our walks. I like it because it has a database of trails that can be downloaded to your phone and used to get ideas about new places to go.

Search over 400,000 trails with trail info, maps, detailed reviews, and photos curated by millions of hikers, campers, and nature lovers like you.

We took a wonderful walk yesterday at Hanover College on the Happy Valley Trail (not the official name but that's the name of the creek valley the trail goes through). We are in peak wildflower season here and this particular place has the best wildflowers we have found, and yesterday it was absolutely gushing with flowers! Blue bells, purple larkspur, red trillium, Dutchman's breeches and several other white flowers, yellow wood poppies, and purple and white phlox just to name a few off the top of my head. This trail also has a section with excellent views of the Ohio River and several side trails leading to waterfalls.

We're also in morel mushroom season here but so far we haven't found any. There's not many things in this world that make me as happy as finding delicious wild mushrooms in our woods...

AllTrails looks like a great resource if I ever want to go hiking on the various State Park trails in this area. Thanks!

I have looked at a number of apps for my phone, but they all seem to rely on established trails. I want something that will work for the unmarked trails around where I live where usually only the hunters go.

We live on 63 acres with our own trails and AllTrails works great even though we are not on their map. I'll dig up a picture for you later on this evening to show you...
