    The True Meaning Of Yesmusic

I think that most of us would agree that there is a 'spiritual' aspect to the music and definitely a positive message. There is a bit of observation and revealing of world issues and criticism. Some say Anderson's lyrics oftentimes were largely nonsensical and just meant to rhyme. Some concentrate on the musicianship and musical structure and like to point out that this guy is better than that guy and so on.

But I think there is something more than that, which was evident in Chris' fervent words to Billy on his deathbed, where he said, "Billy, you have to keep the band going!". Perhaps an overall mission to heal the world through love or something like that. In my observation, Yes, The Beatles and Rock and Roll in general seem to indicate this.

Anderson's lyrics, or some of them, were poetic lyrics that used imagery, allusion and metaphor to good effect. I'm not sure I regard that as 'spiritual', it's how language works. Much as I love music, I don't see it as a healing force - especially not The Beatles, the most-overrated band in the world.

When asked about the meaning of Yes lyrics, Anderson would often say things like "to awaken the divine within", so definitely spiritual. Though less so when he wasn't in the band.

I didn't say Jon Anderson didn't thibnk they were spiritual! I mean, how is singing a song going to 'awaken the divine'? (Even Tales from Topographic Oceans!)

I assumed Yes music was about girls, rock and roll and boogie all night. At least on a spiritual level.

It may in part depend on what substance one had ingested prior to listening.

Evolutionary behaviour by naked apes. Attract mates. Procreate. That is the be end of it all. The rest is smoke and mirrors to control populations with Sky Daddies. And Mamas.

Music and performance. Ritual. Amplified instruments. Physics. Sound waves. Even major and minor keys vary in emotional reactions across different populations.
Vibrations in ear. Small bones in ear. Brain. Pleasure. In brain. Nowhere else. All homo sapiens have ears and brains. Does that make it spiritual? Definately makes it a mental experience.

YESmusic's true meanin' is to create pleasurable music to a large population. The lyrical positive message of human universality is valid and should never be taken for granted. The divine within is a spurious religious construct on the level of leprechauns.

The Enlightenment was over 300 years ago.

Hopefully the next single from MttS is less than 300 hours to go.

Just a guess. Within the month. Surely. As to which song? Haven't a clue, could be a 9 minuter. That, indeed would be "divine"!!! 😉

I remember an interview with Jon Anderson from the 70s. It went something like this:

Q: A lot of people can’t make sense of your lyrics
A: All my lyrics have meaning and are about specific subjects
Name any lyric and I’ll tell you what it means
Q: Uh…………. Yours Is No Disgrace
A: The Vietnam war. The shining flying purple wolfhounds are the helicopters

I wonder if he ever talked about other lyrics in detail like that.

My feeling is the overall Yes-vibe, spirit, philosophy or what ever you want to call it goes way beyond the lyrics. Thinking of something along the lines of souls, symphonies, music, love, enlightenment, world transformation.

Think you're stretchin' things. World transformation?
I mean. I thinks it's cool music and all. Also. Souls? Think they don't exist. Brain activity. Yes. Death? End of brain activity.

The only YES-related music that will be enjoyed in a 1,000 years is the Firebird Suite.

Well let's see now. CTTE is about the quest of Siddhartha for spiritual enlightenment, based on the life of Siddartha Gautama more commonly known as Buddha. Tales was inspired by ancient Hindu religious scriptures . Awaken is blatantly about spiritual enlightenment. The theme of That That Is is that everyone even crack hos is capable of spiritual transcendence. Just to take a few epic examples.

                            The defense rests.

Songs that could've also used a legend like Robin the Hood as an inspiration. Guessin' you believe in all this divine within. Fine.

Don't care. As long as you live an ethical life. Are kind to puppies and children. Do you. Keep doin' you. 😉
