Saturday - spent the day with about 15 other couples, and a few singles, at an MS retreat day. At a local hospital. Primarily comprised of the individual with MS and their caregiver (akin to my wife and me). General discussion, vent your frustrations, massage option, acupuncture option, meditation, cooking class, painting class, and just talking with others/friends. A wonderful 6.5 hours.
The courage of the individuals with MS always makes me smile. Also reminds me of how trivial all of my own complaining is. And the love and commitment of their friends, partners, spouses, caregivers, always renews my faith in people.
I am very much hardened, and jaded, and angry, at most times when discussing all things health and health industry. The family (s) sponsoring these events, the docs, the volunteers, bring me back to earth.

THE POWER OF THE DENTIST Pt 2
while the luvvies on the red carpet were smilin' and slappin' comedians over lame, insulting jokes I was lying back with Dr Jakob back inside my mouth. Back molar. Gawd. It just wouldn't budge . Had to cut in two. Took 45 odd minutes. He had to give me 6 or 7 anaesthetic needles. I was exhausted. Relieved the damn thing was out. Dentistry. Still using pliers and elbow grease. Jesus, Joseph and Mary.
On the way home. Could barely put one foot in front of the other. Had taken codeine the night before. Then I thought of Jane Campion who inspired me to go on. She must have faced so many obstacles to get where she is. Persuade, convince, cajole her way to create films.
And then she won Best Director. And the smile came back. A tentative smile, still a bit sore from the suturing. But a smile regardless.
