I don't know whether that will just be for Japan or whether we'll see that version in the UK.
I'd like the CD/DVD or CD/Blu Ray package. Don't really need the other stuff, even though I'm a n LP fan!

Here is a link also to another description with ref to the extra tracks and second concert. Hmm

??????????????
I understand that John Wetton was referring to a club with "82", but that's kind of arcane knowledge. You don't release a song like that to a mass market in 1982 without realizing that when you reference finding yourself in '82 (the current year), and disco hotspots no longer holding charm for you (Disco also being something rooted in a time- the 70s, right before '82), people are going to assume it's the year and, in fact, some have mentioned that Wetton himself changed it to reflect the current year sometimes live (I haven't heard those tapes, but I believe people when they say it.). I feel like it always had a double meaning.
I've read Eddie Vedder, the lead singer of Pearl Jam, mention several times that he wrote "Alive" as (this is a paraphrase describing it my own way- not a quote or anything close to a quote) being from the perspective of someone who'd been through a lot in life and had his father die, questioning why he personally was still alive in sort of a depressed anguished fashion, but that the fans started singing it and responding to it as an anthem about celebrating life despite tough circumstances, and it has actually influenced the way the band plays it live. Vedder sings it as more of an upbeat song now, responding to what people hear in his art rather than doubling down on his original intent.
Honestly, I don't mind if they keep the line in "Heat of the Moment" as it is in the studio, or update it for "22" when they perform it live. Either works for me. If you change the year, you might also want to change the word "disco" to "techno" or "dance club", just because someone getting sick of disco hotspots in the year 2022 doesn't really match cultural history as we know it.I wouldn't go much further than that if they want to change it, though- change the year and change disco, but keep the bones of it the same.
If I had to guess, the current lead singer being someone who's worked in Keith Emerson's band and a band started by a former member of Chicago to play early Chicago songs and other songs in a similar style, that he'll want to stick precisely to the source material lyrics wise, but that's just a wild guess based on his career to date as I know it. I have no idea, really.Last edited by downbyariver; 03-22-2022, 02:25 PM."A lot of the heavier conversations I was having with Chris toward the end were about his desire for this thing to go forward. He kept reiterating that to me. [...] He kept telling me, 'No matter what happens, Yes needs to continue moving forward and make great music. So promise me that that's something you want to do.'. And I have to keep making music. It's just what I do. [...] I'm a fan of the band and I want to see it thrive and that means new music." -Billy Sherwood

I didn't really think this was a "necessary" addition to the catalog - yet in the CD/DVD/Digital era, maybe it is.
I really have "zero" use for the LPs, unfortunately. While I have a record player, I find I use my CD player 100-1 more than my vinyl, easily.
I would LOVE to own the DVD and the art goodies LOL. I love ALPHA so much. But with the price tag here, for all that vinyl I don't want, I have to kind of sit on this and weigh the benefits (BEYOND simply "being an /ASIA\ completist").

(Footnote: great example here was Springsteen's The Ties that Bind on iTunes: 4 "CDs" of audio, a full-length concert video, a smattering of other videos, and a 170 page PDF book.)

I frankly feel often ALONE with all the excitement over vinyl lately. There was a time for it, I certainly agree the "big cover art" looks great - but it just frankly takes up too much room, is heavy, and the truth is I have cultivated a CD and DVD media collection I treasure more.
Taking on new vinyl in 2022 - after so many years of "missing pieces" (like TALK through MAGNIFICATION for YES), why get in to new vinyl now (again, I speak for myself).
Forcing me as a dedicated /ASIA\ fan to pay that much extra, to get 2 vinyls I don't really want, just to acquire a CD and DVD that I really DO want...? I don't know. It's just a hard sell to me, and at this age even if I CAN afford to buy it, I'm asking myself - "Do I really WANT to?"
