  • Which Arc of Life songs would you like to have seen on Yes albums instead?

With Cut from the Stars and All Connected being penned mostly from Davison/Sherwood and being two of the strongest tracks on the record, do you think that with Howe's production some Arc of Life songs would have benefited by being on yes albums? Or are you not enthused at all about those first two AOL albums?

Personally I like Until Further Notice, Just in sight, Don't Look Down, Let Live and All Things Considered. Maybe these could have laid the foundations for yessongs?

Same.. Why do any of them need to be on a Yes album? They are already officially released.
      Not on Yes' payroll.

Well, eh...maybe nothing stands out particularly as a lost Yes song begging for the Yes treatment. If anything, I would say probably two or three of the shorter songs between the two albums could be Yessified, but nothing much of the longer epic tracks - not enough up & down development. Well, maybe one of the 9 minute ones from the first album, but not the track 'Arc Of Life'. That needed more sections and development anyway.

There was a song on a PROG COLLECTIVE - Anything But Goodbye, which to me sounded Yessish

Well, on my never ending quest (!) of blasphemy and sacrilege I have 'injected' bits and pieces of Arc Of Life songs on both The Quest and MttS tracks.

And I suppose one has to take into account our predisposition to favor Yes above Yes affiliates. I mean one and the same track would be easier discarded if it was AOL than if it was Yes.
At least for me it works that way.

I actually would've loved if "You Make It Real" were a Yes Single

Just in Sight is the only AOL song that really seems like it could be a Yes song, and that’s because of the guitar that sounds kind of like Steve’s playing on Awaken. But I don’t think it would be made better by having Yes do it.

                      "Therefore We Are"

To be clear, I am saying that is the song from Arc of Life that would have fit best in on a recent Yes album, in my opinion.

I am not saying the band or the label should literally go and put it on a Yes album now or in the future, just that if it hadn't come out as an Arc of Life song and had come out as a Yes song, it still would have been a good fit in that other context.

In fact, let me just state my preference- now that it has come out from AoL, I don't really feel a burning desire for any other band, Yes included, to put a similar version of the same song on another studio album. It's a great tune, but I think Arc of Life does it justice and I don't really want to buy it again except perhaps on a live album. It would have fit on a Yes studio album, but it also fits on an Arc of Life studio album, and we've got it, so there's no need to keep remaking it.

I give Billy Sherwood a pass for reusing songs sometimes because of the sheer volume of music the man makes for us, but as a generality I don't love it when musicians put the same songs on multiple albums without very substantial changes that they feel really make it worth it. I'd rather each track be new to me, because with playback of computer files, if I actually want to add a song from a different album or band to play always or frequently with abother album or songs from another band, it's fairly simple for me to do that. What I can't do is conjure an additional new song I've never heard to take one of the spots from the song I bought twice as part of two different albums.

TL;DR My one song title answer is at the top of the post.

"A lot of the heavier conversations I was having with Chris toward the end were about his desire for this thing to go forward. He kept reiterating that to me. [...] He kept telling me, 'No matter what happens, Yes needs to continue moving forward and make great music. So promise me that that's something you want to do.'. And I have to keep making music. It's just what I do. [...] I'm a fan of the band and I want to see it thrive and that means new music." -Billy Sherwood

I think there are actually more songs in the Circa catalogue which sound closer to being full on Yes songs than AoL Together We Are (Circa: 2007) for example just howls out to be a Yes track.
