Like Button vs Emojipocalypse

Is Yesfans moving on from verbal interactions to the bright, glorious, & illiterate future of memes & emojis only?
The “like” button at the bottom right of each post is gone & now there’s an emoji button at the bottom left. Did you make a recent change?
Maybe it’s because I just “cleared all website data” trying to make my old iPad Air 2 surf “ad rich” sites w-out constant error mssgs?

What do you mean by illiterate? Emojis are not the future; the concept is 40 years old in typography and even older in writing... you know you can still type messages here right?

I saw this too, but it's part of the vBulletin 6.0 upgrade, which looks like got recently applied to the site. Not sure how it all tracks in the end, as a downvote is now a reaction as well, but so it goes: likes are now florps…

I don't really mind it either way.
I suppose it's a little bit irritating that you now have to click twice to react to a post, but I'm still happy to do so if a post is worth reacting to!

I just realised that I don't actually know what all the emojis mean. For example, if I add a smile with hearts to someone's post, might they think I'm stalking them? Or am I just saying "thank you, that was helpful/interesting"? Or is the face with the sunglasses cool, or is it a face that wants to beat you up and not get recognised afterwards? ...

Too confusing for me! (At least, for now. I could track down an emoji dictionary, I suppose.)

What I meant by illiterate, was about the same as I did by bright & glorious, vastly over exaggerating (hoping) for comic effect.
We could get into a whole thing about how emojis can be misinterpreted just as text can, like a footnote can lead to Tales, but that’s not where I was going.
I was seriously asking about ‘what happened, to the like button, we all knew so well’.
I suppose my OP could’ve been something like

I generally don’t like change because I am old/older. More to look at as well. I have tried to fight the system for years REFUSING to do emojis less than I can count on one hand. And yes, I do know about emojis but being a simpleton dinosaur is part of my charm. ;-)

Some of you make me laugh pretty good/well. Thank you! :-)

And now I realize why Gilly’s posts are so well received around here. Not only does his wife and son “react” ( that is a new one, too-and honestly far too much stuff to look at on a little phone screen. I have been off work for almost a week and I have finally felt I may need glasses looking at all this added content and features on my tiny phone screen) , he also adds an emoji to every single one of his posts. Not!

Gilly, did you look at my last post at your midnight drop for Downes Braide Celestial Songs? That one picture is for you, mate. ( Said in a Paul Hogan voice ) “Now that’s a KNIFE!”

That actually sits in my knife block in the kitchen. Bought that a day after a bear almost got to me and Pepperidge Farms cookies all too small tent off the Appalachian Trail. He heard him/her coming. Twigs breaking, heaving breathing and sniffing, I was armed with a flash light and a bike alarm and being able to scream like a girl if need be, and then by the grace of dog, it started to hail, he/she let out a groan and walked off. Never keep your cookies in a tent, and bears don’t enjoy hail from what I gather are two important lessons I learned that day.
