Anyone seen it? I haven’t. I’m a big Beatles fan, but this wasn’t their best time. I think I would eventually want a DVD of the remade Let It Be film.
But six plus hours is a bit too much...
That's what I've gathered from reviews...there are some great moments and the series redeems that particular time somewhat, but the bulk of it is still too meandering.
Almost everything an enthusiast could want from that time. The problems we know about aren't whitewashed.
For the casual Beatle fan it's probably a bit much length wise but the wants of casual fans & a mass audience have always been catered for.
It's good to have an archival project like this see the light of day for a change.
There are enough short clips on Youtube to give a general idea if it's for you or not.
I'm hoping for a Bluray/DVD release next year.
Not a huge Beatles fan myself (I have Abbey Road, Revolver, and the Anthologies on CD, but that's it), but so far I find this utterly engrossing. I know what people are saying about it being too long, but I also think if it was reduced to a "greatest hits" treatment, yes, it'd be an hour, but so much context would be missing, even if the context is just how boring it was to be The Beatles/around The Beatles on a day to day basis… endless farting around in the studio/rehearsals, only to suddenly realize, in retrospect, a classic song is being composed in front of you. Sometimes you need a whole lot of nothing in order to make the something significant… Now if you'll excuse me, time to fire up Tales from Topographic Oceans for lunch…
Saw a good interview by Stephen Colbert with Peter Jackson talking about the making of this project. We're waiting on Disney+ access via one of our kids to watch it. I'm really looking forward to hearing and even seeing the whole roof top concert! I really like Peter's idea of only using the old footage rather than mixing it with other content.
The Beatles is literally the first music I remember hearing and are definitely a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. They were also a huge influence on virtually every single rock and roll band and especially progressive bands including Yes. They were also an awesome live band that could have blown people's minds for decades if they had only been able to get past the screaming girls scene.
Looking forward to a disc release ASAP 😎
I can't imagine DIsney doing it too soon because they'll want to get as many subscriptions as possible first.
I'll just have to wait
