Johnny Bruhns actually first introduced the "boys" in YES to Jon Davison. The other story sounds better, but Johnny told me this himself. He also told me that Taylor pretty much had a dream job, and was pretty fortunate when he told him what an average day entailed for him.
Fifty is actually old. Don't kid yourself. I don't feel like I am over fifty, but there have been a ton of folks who have passed in their teens, twenties, thirties and forties. Fifty is certainly getting up there, no matter how much we try to fool ourselves. Enjoy every single day. They just go by, faster and faster.

Yep. Very sad news. RIP.
He had connections to Yes too; he was friends with Jon Davison since childhood and also knew Chris and Alan pretty well.Leave a comment:

I saw him with Alanis Morrissette and he was noticeably amazing. He was a great drummer, showman, personality and a fan of Yes. Everyone knows he connected Jon Davison to Yes through his friendship with Chris, and when Chris passed he wore a Yes shirt on stage for that whole tour. It really sucks but he apparently has been fighting drug use and almost had a "moment' with heroin years ago. He said he was over that but from what I've read there may have been paraphernalia in the room. It's a tragedy. If you know someone who is using, please don't shun them or stay away--instead help them!. Ultimately, they have to decide they want to clean up, but a sponsor can help them do just that. I know of great successes and some who still never can get off. Understand that for some of these drugs, once you use them once, something switches in their brains and they are helpless unless they can be brought to people who can help. It's not confirmed that it was an overdose, but I am fearing that will end up being the cause. RIP, Taylor. Once thing I remember from his time with Alanis is when she hit him with a cake and he chased her around the stage to get her back. Full of life. You can see the fun they had. I'm sure she is in shock as well. He was such a bright light, music fan, prog fan and talented drummer. RIP, Taylor.👍 1Leave a comment:

This simply f*cking sucks!!!!! 😢😢😢😢😢
Nothing else to add. Except that this is beyond sad... He leaves behind a wife and 3 kids.
Dave Grohl must be in pieces.👍 2Leave a comment:

I'm stunned. Taylor was truly gifted and such a vibrant personality. I feel so bad for his family, friends, bands and fellow fans.👍 1Leave a comment:

I saw that Grohl appearance on Corden's show (there was nothing else on, honest!) and I think he's been on one or two other late night shows promoting the movie. I know nothing about the FF except the name and that Hawkins was a childhood friend with Jon Davison or something. Dave really reminds me of somebody I went to school with, it's uncanny.
Most people here who were on the old site probably remember that CybrKhatru (Matt Brown) and I were together for just about twenty years.
For a short time, Matt played keys in a Yes tribute band called Roundabout, in which Jon D. was also a member before he joined Yes. One night, the band had a gig at Paladino’s in the San Fernando Valley, and Taylor was there. Jon D. had him guest on kit for Long Distance Runaround. Taylor, obviously used to playing huge venues/stadiums, had clearly forgotten what it was like to perform in clubs; he hit the drums and LDR as if he were on stage at Madison Square Garden. It was freakin’ DEAFENING…😂…but he nailed it.

Look Mark Kermode thought 666 was 1/2 decent as a shlock-horror flick with some good jokes. Hawkins has a funny reaction to his drum recording sounds. If it comes on telly I'll watch. If Juano sings with them again I'll listen. Grohl just gives off vibes of that guy in high school who didn't study very hard but played desultory chords on the guitar and seemed cool and ends up earning the most money over everyone else. Plus he goes on every talk show and is held up as some elder statesman of rawk music.
Having said that all that. Obviously works hard at it and seems to be affable in that Wayne's world kinda way. For power rawk I prefer Midnight Oil who supposedly have a brilliant new album out. "RESIST"

OK just as Grohl annoys the hell out of me, he and the band pull me back in.

Recently Grohl was on James Corden with Miss Hillary Duff. This strangely confident labrador, always fussing with his hair, was promoting a new film called Studio 666. A horror film involving his band. He kept touching Hillary. I think I can speak for rabin105, and say, "sir, take your hands off that woman!".
Corden was sucking up big time as he does with every celebrity, and the film is about Grohl killing every member 1 by 1 in some haunted mansion/studio. Then he kills himself. But,no, doesn't have a happy ending. He lives. To go on representing "RAWK" to the world, fussing with his hair, being overwrought onstage, speaking at the UN and being the first rock band to play on the moon. Don't put it past him. So my annoyance of his bland ubiquity continues....
until the Fooies announce a 1 off gig on Geelong, near Melbourne in the next few days. Will be the biggest Live music event since the pandemic began. They love touring here. 13 times. That's 9 times more than the Aussie band ACDC.
They pull me back in. They fly 1/2 way round the world to put on a show for the young 'uns who have been stuck indoors for 2 years. They will definitely do their great BeeGees covers.
I'm torn. 🤒
We saw Studio 666 other day. It was a silly fun romp, usual send up on horror films combined with band element. Good for some laughs. I’m not familiar with all the members, but they were funny in the flickLeave a comment:

I have seen them a couple of times. I think they are masters at putting on a show.
Very fun gig. Similar to my thoughts about Springsteen, in that I am not a huge fan of their recorded output, but they have a great rock sensibility and they are very skilled at performing.
I remember many years ago, reportedly Chris Squire attended a Springsteen concert in the 80's and was very motivated to put on a better Yes show. Reportedly putting Gimme Some Lovin into the Yes set was a Squire idea after seeing people go nuts when Springsteen threw in a cover tune during his encore.👍 1Leave a comment:

FF don't do a lot for me and I preferred my grunge with more pretentiousness (Smashing Pumpkins) but Dave seems like a good bloke who would be great to have a night out with.
This however is one of the greatest things I have seen on Youtube.
