Oh, things have changed. Hawkins asks Beato about his early life. Workin' class background. Mum worked in a cannin' factory. Dad on the railways. Very proud of his self-made life. Still owns a full recordin' studio with 6 or so full drumkits. So. As I like to say. Workers United. Will never be defeated. Enjoy both guy's analysis. Good to see their mutual respect. 😁

One of my new obsessions is this woman who lifestyle blogs from Svalbard, because I have never lived in a cold place and I am just amazed to see people living in constant snow and darkness half the year.

    2 blokes chinwaggin'.

Not too much juicy goss. Name droppin'.

    Beato champions prog-metal

Justin is in awe of Beato's ear

    Polymiphia? Hawkins doesn't get it.

    Relaxed, friendly chat.

My first thought when I saw the thread-title was: the drummer with Foo Fighters?

I soon realised my error, and chastised myself roundly.

Exactly. I move between various bubbles and I enjoy the kind of multiverse feeling of it.

And equally adept at guitar and sings, which el Beato can't.

He has survived being produced by Roy Thomas Baker and the TV show The Masked Singer. He has entered onstage riding a stuffed white tiger...Beato comes across as a suburban guitar teacher who lucked out with youtube. Justin has ridden the white tiger metaphorically and literally.
I get that you enjoy the rock star glamour of Justin and you are a fan, apparently, but I don't think it's a criteria for taking someone seriously as a musician. Obviously people in the industry do think Rick has credibility otherwise he wouldn't have landed the interviews he has, just as an example. Or had dinner with Joni Mitchell, ffs.

But there are SO MANY musicians/songwriters/producers/vocal coaches et al with channels on YouTube it doesn't have to be a Battle Royale between two people. But if you don't like Rick's personality then don't watch him. I only watch the episodes when he's talking about a song I like, otherwise there's plenty of other commentary channels for me to enjoy.

My world on the internet is simple. It’s basically Yesfans and Youtube.
One of the things I regularly do on Youtube is search for the term ā€œoriginal musicā€. Most of that is people playing
their own songs on acoustic guitar or keyboard. I get a kick out of being the almighty jury and zapping to another one if it’s not to my liking.
Now and again I stumble on something really good.

Seems I went off on a tangent here, sorry....

No. Have you watched Rick's channel? If not, you should. Solid analyses and dissection of songs, interviews (Sting, Gary Burton, Pat Metheny, Jon Anderson, etc.), deep dives into music theory and history ...

    Excellent channel.

Love Justin, love The Darkness. I honestly believe they are one of the great Brit bands of the last 15 years. Not everyone's cuppa I understand, however where else can you find an incredibly catchy and infectious pop rock song about one's personal relationship with body lice? I rest my case.

I do get that about him. I'm such a nerd I'd rather it be esoterically explained. 🤣

    Now he does FOO FIGHTERS....

some genuine insights about how Rock songs are arranged. He has a gift to explain the inner workings. But in a way that his mates (us) down the pub can follow.

LOL, that is such a SHF-type clickbait title. 😜

I mean...I've watched some of his videos and he's entertaining and interesting but...I don't regard him any higher than other commentators, necessarily. Probably just me. Then again I tend not to look at commentators/content as either/or. There's room for everybody, even if the Algorithm is attempting otherwise.
