The Beach Boys' 40 Greatest Songs (As Ranked By the Guardian)

As a new documentary about Brian Wilson arrives, we take on the near-impossible task of sorting his band’s best, from lustful-teen pop to meditative balladry

What do you think of the list? Anything you'd have done differently?
"A lot of the heavier conversations I was having with Chris toward the end were about his desire for this thing to go forward. He kept reiterating that to me. [...] He kept telling me, 'No matter what happens, Yes needs to continue moving forward and make great music. So promise me that that's something you want to do.'. And I have to keep making music. It's just what I do. [...] I'm a fan of the band and I want to see it thrive and that means new music." -Billy Sherwood

That's the list you would kind of expect, mine is somewhat different, I am more of a 70s Beach-Boys-admirer, when they got more laconic and reflective, but of course I love a lot of the mid- to late 60's stuff as well:

    1: Sail On Sailor
    2: The Trader
    3: Surf's Up
    4: All This is That
    5: Leaving This Town
    6: Deirdre
    7: Marcella
8: Heroes And Villains (live version from 73)
    9: All I Wanna Do
10: Child Is Father To The Man
    11: Funky Pretty
    12: Do It Again
    13: Wouldn't It be Nice...
