Yawn... Saw The Eagles on The Long Run Tour (incredible), Hell Freezes Over (really Good) and then a few years before Glenn passed away. The only good thing for me was Joe Walsh on the last show I saw. They have clearly milked this for all it's worth. Vince Gill is a wonderful musician but doesn't seem to fit (for me anyways). Live they have never been the same since Don Felder was tossed out of the band and that "comeback" album The Long Road to Eden was a real disappointment.

          I'd always "liked" the Eagles.

Then I ended up in an Eagles tribute band.

Man, I gained a real appreciation for their arrangements; they were truly brilliant.

I'm not saying they were not talented, Up until 1980 and even the Hell Freezes reunion they were great. That run of Desperado, On The Border, One of these Nights, Hotel California and the Long Run is truly epic. But after 1997 they were/are just shell of themselves.

It's not really Steely Dan anymore, is it? It's Donald Fagen. I believe he was told that promoters didn't want to book him as a solo act and he was sort of forced to use the SD name...

Anyway, it's kind of an odd pairing. Sure, you can call it "Dad rock" (or even "Grand daddy Rock"), but I never felt that these were two bands that shared the same fan base. One band strikes me as sophisticated, urban, original and clever. The other band is The Eagles...

First thing that pops in my mind when I hear The Eagles is that moment in The Big Lebowski!

And that was all down to Glenn. If you take the time to absorb the craft of what they were doing (same as the Dan when you think about it) it is brilliant. And then everything else on top. Those harmonies - perfection!
