There was a story that he played one gig with Purple when Blackmore couldn’t perform. Years later either Gillian or perhaps Glover said they had no memory of this ever happening, but there were several people who have said it happened

          Correct. Excellent memory.

Was confirmed by the man himself in latest Rick Beato interview. Seemed Blackmore had a bad reaction to a flu shot, ( oh sure!!??) in San Antonio on the first night of a Deep Purple tour. Cross was in support act or somesuch and was handpicked to take over at short notice. He knew the hits and could play Blues. *

Blackmore later told him he was the only guitarist to sub for him in whole career. There is a doco about Blackmore planned. Cross was interviewed for it. Who would have thought???

Cross also opened for Led Zeppelin 12 times. Opened for The Eagles.

Ride and Sailin' are 2 of my favourite all time songs!!!!

*Texas at the time had a law that said touring acts had to use a local band as an openin' act. Texas. Progressive 😉

I could easier imagine Jon Anderson in Black Sabbath…

Sounds a lot like my stint/show where I replaced Rabin when he was ill. Sure, I butchered Steve’s parts, but no one was none the wiser I wasn’t Trevor for that one night. ;-)

Wakeman appeared on Black Sabbath's classic 1973 album Sabbath Bloody Sabath delivering the keyboard parts on Sabbra Cadabra.

                  .

Steve Howe appeared on Queen's 1991 album Innuendo somewhere in the middle of the title track playing Spanish Guitar.

                  .

Supposedly Jon Anderson sings backing vocal on Stop Loving You from Toto's 1988 album The Seventh One, but I'll be damned if I can hear him at all.

But you can certainly hear him on King Crimson's 1970 album Lizard, singing on Prince Rupert Awakes.

Chris Squire guested on Steve Hackett's 2015 release Wolflight, playing bass on Love Song To A Vampire.

I could really see Yes deconstructing a song like Child In Time in the way they did America...
Or My Hobbit in Tokyo with Jon A singing.

I hear him on “chances are few” but more importantly he’s doing all that scatting on the instrumental breaks “babadibadabadidooh” kind of…
