Jon Lord, Doctor of Music 2011

Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

Dunno how many of you have seen this before.....

A link above to a YT video of Jon Lord receiving his honorary degree from the University of Leicester on July 15, 2011. Tragically he died almost exactly a year later, on July 16, 2012.
The location, De Montfort Hall, is only a short walk along Victoria Park from the campus and has been used for degree congregations for decades.
Like Jon I went to both my first rock concert (Yes in 1973) and my first classical concert (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Simon Rattle in 1984) there. Like Jon I remember what was played.
I met him backstage after concerts several times in the late 70s/early 80s with Whitesnake, and he was always gracious and appreciative, and keen to hear news of his hometown.
On the day of his degree he came around the campus in his doctoral robes and came into the University library where I worked. It was especially pleasing to congratulate him in person and to thank him for all the music and fun he had given us.
