Pink Floyd set to self immolate

Over a tweet by Polly Samson. Attackin' Roger in no uncertain terms. David has doubled down on her opinion of Roger. Personal. Political.
Roger has responded by a legal threat.

Now some wag suggested online that product must be comin'. Well in fact there is. To celebrate DSOTM 50th in March. Rumours are Roger has reimagined the album with only his vocals and no guitar solos. Hahahahahaha.

So there is context to her latest rant

I guess this could be a partial window into why DSOTM50 is so danged stingy.

The amount of ego in Pink Floyd (well, Roger and David) is quite disproportionate to the quality of their music. I enjoy Wish You Were Here and DSOTM a lot, Animals is pretty good and The Wall is good, if a bit overrated, but it isnโ€™t like they made that many great albums. I find their long running feud quite tedious and pathetic.

Good Lord, how old are these two? 15? This is ridiculous.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who find PF overrated. I still enjoy some of their early stuff like Meddle or A saucerful of secrets, but I'm sick and tired of DSOTM, WYWH and the rest. It's all over classic rock radio and every time "Time" or "Money" is on, I switch stations.

I'd more or less had with Waters after THE WALL, and the way he had Wright fired by holding the musical material hostage. Of course, because THE WALL tour cost so much the band had to suck up the loss. Except for Rick Wright, who was no longer in the band, but was hired as a touring musician.

I thought that THE WALL had a bit too much whiny Roger Waters lead vocal, and it wasn't all that long after it had been released that I went from "loving it" to "loathing it". A lot of the songs were not musically all that interesting, rather simple in harmonic structure and progression.

When THE FINAL CUT came out I didn't even bother buying it.

And then when Roger declared the band to be "done", and released his own whiny shrieky solo album, it was the last straw. Loved the cover though.

Come to think of it, although I loved DSOTM and WYWH, I wasn't nearly as enamored with ANIMALS.

This is the tweet that Gilmour's wife send out and which Gilmour confirmed in no uncertain terms....

Animals, 'Echoes', Wish You Were Here, Atom Heart Mother, DSOTM all good. I quite like the Waters-less stuff too. I dislike Waters' solo stuff, the Wall and Final Cut intensely though. I also think it's quite sad that Floyd have joined in with the heritage industry, repackaging stuff in expensive reissues etc etc (Yes, i know, no-one has to buy it; and I don't). I've just got the DSOTM book to review. Haven't seen anything so thin, contentwise, for a long time: lots of rather ordinary black and white photos, a couple of pages of Hipgnosis design work, one review โ€“ simply a torn out newspaper, photographed, a few bits of memorabilia, and a list of gigs. Coffee table publishing at its worst....

Well done to Sansom and Gilmour for calling out Waters though, although there is a difference between opposing the state of Israel and being anti-semetic.

I love Meddle to Final Cut and Roger solo. Little outside of that.

Don't absolutely always agree with Roger, but do way more often than not.

Kinda on his side in all this, but both parties are culpable to some extent.

I'd have loved to see Floyd wit them both. Gilmour's a stunning guitarist, one of the all time greats, but I never bothered with Dave solo or Daves Floyd. He's a boring songwriter making dull beige music.

I don't think so! The solo stuff and the couple of late Floyd albums ahve been ace. And of course it focusses n his guitar. vocals have never been the main thing in Pink Floyd [contrary to Waters' take on things]
