I have mixed feelings about the Grateful Dead and especially Deadheads. I've seen some epic shows including Berkeley Greek and NYE shows that were off the charts. But I have also been present for some horrible scenes including the riot at Deer Creek. When it works it's great but far too often it doesn't. And don't even get me started about Dead & Co...

Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

I see though where you are coming from, and can understand, I thought the 2019 tour was too low on energy, but 2021 really did grab me. They could have played faster and more dynamic, I would not have minded. But I thought that they had an subtle, intricate energy on a high level. The complex interplay, not at least between Mayer and Chimenti I found stunning. It seemed to me they could go wherever they wanted together in new territory, the whole band. But obviously you are not alone with your criticism.
But I agree when they get into a groove it can be pure magic, even 57 years after they first started. Glad you are able to enjoy some shows!

This Dead show in February 1971 saw five songs being debuted, including Bertha and Wharf Rat. The latter is dropped into a Dark Star jam in the first set, a transition which Phil Lesh decades later described as beautiful, and which has since become known as the 'Beautiful Jam'. It's an entirely apt description.Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.

This show has been officially released, and I very much enjoy it. It's bonus content on the 50th Anniversary of American Beauty.

Anyone familiar with this Dead concert? I don’t own any Dead, but I want something, vinyl, and this item is up my alley. If it’s still where I saw it that is. Lol.
Thoughts or comments on the show / that tour??!!Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
