    Phil Lesh interview

    Fascinating interview with Phil Lesh.
He's all-too-often overlooked as a bass player and musician, and was to an extent overshadowed by Jerry and Bobby, but Phil being Phil, being his diffident self, was cool with all that. Super smart guy and a wonderfully player.
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

Master of Bass! His understanding of music and sonic precision pushed the band to almost unobtainable levels.
Didn't hurt that he had TWO drummers that could speak the same rhythmic languages.

Nice interview and thanks for sharing it Ash. I agree 100% that Phil's contribution to the Grateful Dead is often overshadowed by the Jerry & Bobby show which is a shame. I always love hearing Phil talk like this and he looks and sounds great in this interview! I laughed at the comment about CSN helping GD with their vocals because honestly as much as I appreciate Phil's playing when he starts singing I want to run for the doors.

He shot his voice very early on, around 1970, and it never really recovered.
