Last night's Steve Hacket 'Foxtrot At 50' show in Brighton was filmed for a future release, continuing the series of live albums/films documenting his tours.

Hackett seems to release a live disc/dvd thing after every tour every other year. I would gather that 2023 would be a new Hackett album and 2024 would be a release of the Foxtrot 50 shows. Seeing Hackett live this past April with the Seconds Out tour was just great on every level. He's doing the Foxtrot tour in the UK and Italy this year, I would gather that he'll come back to the States next year and I'll see him again then, probably at the Warner Theater where I saw him the last two times. By then he may have a new album on the horizon. He seems to have a cycle and a method for this stuff that works. Viva Hackett - the most successful and consistent of the Genesis alumni.

Hackett works closely with his keyboardists and they are often his right hand man during the times they are there - Nick Magnus from 1978 throughout the 80's and then Julian Colebeck during the 90's, and for well over 20 years now it's been Roger King. He's been a big part of Hackett's sound - more orchestral and atmospheric. I would certainly buy a Roger King solo album - one that Steve Hackett would probably guest on. Banks, brilliant as he was, was never on the same page with Hackett and most likely would not support him and wouldn't be that right hand man figure. I can't see them working together. There aren't too many duo Banks/Hackett compositions in the Genesis catalogue if any. Besides, anyone Genesis is mostly retired and Hackett is the last man standing. He probably doesn't need them now, though he's always said that he was up for doing something with his former Genesis colleagues if they called him.

I know its the eternal conundrum, but I'd really like to see Steve play more of his own catalogue in his live shows. The last time I saw him do that was maybe fifteen years ago at the Holmfirth Hipperdrome.
I've caught a few of his Genesis themed tours since, but they're not a must see event for me. What about a show just with his classical/acoustic/instrumental work? That would be awesome. Under a Mediterranean Sky is one hell of an album.

I love Hackett, so I'm not really complaining, but I as well would prefer a show of mostly solo catalogue with maybe less Genesis classics in the set. He has tons of great albums, and as much as I love Genesis I kind of see Steve Hackett as just 'Hackett' as a separate thing and not ex-Genesis' or 'dude from Genesis'. Tony Banks is still seen as 'from Genesis' by me but Hackett is almost an unrelated artist for me now. Just 'Hackett'. But promoters want reassurance that Genesis stuff is included to sell the tickets.
As for acoustic shows, he still does those here and there, mostly in Europe I think. I don't think he's done an acoustic tour in a while. He did one tour around the Metamorpheus album in 2005, I saw them in Virginia which was wonderful - just acoustic guitar, some keyboard and John Hackett on flute. Great stuff.

I always look forward to and enjoy a Steve Hackett concert, drawing on his entire catalogue. I've no complaints. Over the last 7 or 8 years I've had the privilege to hear him and his brilliant band play a whole raft of great music spanning his entire recording career. So this or that tour may not include songs from this or that post-Genesis solo album, but taken overall his solo recordings have not been under-represented live. As there's not much left of his time with Genesis that has not been celebrated - and it is a celebration each time - live on recent tours, perhaps there'll be more opportunities with future tours to tip the balance of the set more towards his solo work. He's one of the hardest touring musicians of his age out there, so while I've no doubt he'll continue to tour while his health, fitness and desire remains, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not looking ahead to reducing that workload quite considerably within the next 3 to 5 years.
As I say, seeing him live lots of times in the past decade leaves me with nothing whatsoever to complain of.Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.

I'll always buy a new Hackett album and see a live Hackett show when he comes around my way, he's always consistent and his band is great. More solo material in the live set would be a plus, but even if not, I always walk away from a Hackett show happy. He's already at work on the next solo album and I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in the fall. I assume he'll swing his current Foxtrot show to the States in due time. I don't think anyone's performed 'Time Table' live before. I don't think he has any plans to slow down as long as he has his health and enthusiasm for the music. He always shows up as a guest on his cohorts' own albums as well (Amanda, Nick Magnus, Nad Sylvan etc), I gather he's in it for the music. He's the one guy from Genesis still out there, and I consider him the most successful member/ex-member of that band. I respect the guy. Let's see what he does next.
