Exactamundo. My fave, more melodic and celtic than Hergest Ridge and TB. Hadn't heard it for 40 years or so until this year. Thankyou YT.

Now I'm all over MO. Everyday. He is a genius.

I pulled Return to Ommadawn this afternoon. I think it stands up well to the original and to much of his later work.

Current listening to Fleet by Arc (Ian Boddy and Mark Shreeve). If you like instrumental music, you need to check out DiN, Boddy's label, lots of great stuff including Robert Rich, Markus Reuter and Node. https://din.org.uk/

First a Disclaimer.....: Generally speaking, I'm NOT a fan of Tales From Topographic Oceans. When I first bought the album in 1980 (age 15), I was slowly developing into a serious YES fan, had seen them on 2 consecutive tours (1979. 1980), and had most of the studio and live albums. I have almost no memory of listening to TFTO for the first time....I'm pretty sure that TRSOG put me to sleep the first time I played it, and it took me several weeks (if not months) to finally listen to all 4 sides.

However, with the reissue of the Steven Wilson mixes in 2018, I made a startling discovery : my problem all along had been with the vocals ! With the release of the Instrumental Mixes (only available on the Blueray edition BTW), I suddenly gained a new appreciation for the whole sprawling mess ! Although I have slowly/finally developed a love and appreciation for the full versions of The Remembering and Ritual (with vocals) the Steven Wilson intrumental mixes are now my Go-To versions of the album as a whole.

(side note : Sacrilege I know, but I like the new cover artwork for the Steven Wilson version
          better as well !)

Classical music aside, there are probably tens of thousands of Pop and Rock instrumentals, a thousand of which are noteworthy.

Sure - there's some Yes instrumentals - of which there aren't really that many: The Clap from TYA, the four from Fragile, Evensong from ABWH, and the bonus tracks that seem to basically unfinished ideas.

              I'll take the Beatles road

There's the rudimentary Cayenne, which isn't all that noteworthy. But there's Cry For a Shadow, and Flying.

There was also a jam that went by the name of 12-Bar Blues. That was pretty unremarkable.

Genesis has a whole mountain of instrumentals:

                          Horizons (a Hackett classical solo)
                          After The Ordeal
                          Hairless Heart
                          The Waiting Room
                          Silent Sorrow In Empty Boats
                          Los Endos
                          Wot Gorilla
                          Unquiet Slumbers/In That Quiet Earth
                          Dukes Travels
                          Naminanu
                          Submarine
                          The Brazillian
                          Do The Neurotic
                          7/8
                          Phret

I ripped a CD-r of those instrumental tracks, makes a great CD
How did Do The Neurotic or Naminanu end up as B-sides? Those are album contenders
