I got a good chuckle out of this news when I first saw it. I love Meathead (Rob Reiner) so I found that choice particularly interesting. Here's hoping they come up with something good!

No, he is racist. He worries about people of different races, skin colour and nationality living in "his" country. Wokeism does not exist, beyond recognising there are many issues in the world we need to pay attention to and try and address: racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.

Besides all the political stuff, I think some things are best left in the past with their iconic status. This can almost only temper with that status. Fawlty Towers wasn't just about Basil. Other characters were vital to the greatness of the show. Andrew Sachs, Manuel, has passed away. Connie Booth, Polly, has retired from acting (not to mention she was vital in the writing of the series) and Prunella Scales, Sybil, suffers from Alzheimer disease.

I think this can almost only result in disappointment.

I think you missed that part about Cleese being British, and the show being British. It seems that you have confused the two countries.
