Well, I got the above for “Roger Dean 90125 album cover”, so it seems to stop at the “Roger Dean” part (and who can blame it?).

And then this for “Roger Dean Talk Yes album cover”:

How did I know what the albums were before reading your text? I just knew by the image somehow. Kinda weird. Haha

Cool HomePara. Think you might be right. No evidence of data collected of actual YES albums. My understandin' was that the AI collected thousands of images from art, photographs, all meshed and averaged out.

Wonder what Roger thinks of all this?

Probably the same as Nick Cave thought about some AI lyrics created from him.

The main controversy at the moment is AI generated school essays. How do the schools react. Can they surf the AI wave as most commentators are claimin'? Claimin' this is the future. Maybe exams will always be live and supervised.

That is not only the only controversy.

Artists are pretty upset that AI is actually liberally "borrowing" their artwork to create its own.

One of two massive lawsuits puts it this way; "The tool "is a parasite that, if allowed to proliferate, will cause irreparable harm to artists, now and in the future," and that AI's "ability to flood the market with an essentially unlimited number of [similar] images will inflict permanent damage on the market for art and artists".

BTW, I think that the faux Roger Dean renderings are pretty cool.

Yes the AI is cool but concerning, I worry about rendering writers' and artists' work useless. I hope the creativity of humans will prevail against the robots.

I don’t get the problem. If I make a painting in the style of painter X, last I checked, that’s perfectly legal. Just like writing or making music in the style of. Most artists consider it a compliment. As long as you don’t make a 1:1 copy.

About AI writing texts, which I understand is used by lazy students: Isn’t that like using a calculator? You can use it to cheat, or as a useful tool.

A story I read this morning reported that Google was worried about Chatbox and called in two retired execs to help brainstorm the problems caused by the rise of this particular AI, especially as it pertains to their Search Engine.

One of the Execs pointed out what he considered to be some serious flaws in the Chatbox algorithms. It seems that you can have it create racist remarks and hate speech. AND it seems to be unable to differentiate between facts and misinformation, and seems to have trouble correcting its mistakes. However, a story I read several weeks ago about Chatbox reported that it DOES learn from its errors.

I've already seen an unrelated example of Chatbox getting basic facts wrong: that of its explanation of the drumming of Ringo Starr: While it got right the part of Starr's excellent time-keeping skills, it also explained that Starr's drumming was devoid of fills, as demonstrated by his drumming on the song Back In The USSR.

As any Beatles fan knows, Ringo's fills are unique, and numerous. AND it was Paul McCartney that played the drums on Back In the USSR.

I wish some people on the forum would learn from their 'mistakes' [and i dont mean pianozach]. I think the trouble is all the AIs seem to be doing are sampling and collaging, which is great - i teach a whole course on remixology – but it's not 'thinking' or offering an aesthetic or academic judgement about what it creates.

The best description I’ve seen of ChatGPT so far has been “mansplaining as a service”: plausible sounding answers delivered with a high degree of confidence that are often totally wrong.

Oh my god YES! I saw a post about someone using ChatGPT to write a story and my response was: "That's not a story, it's a synopsis."

I do think AI-generated creative works are a slippery slope. On the other hand, at least some may have seen the viral AI-created photographs of "people" at a party which are uncannily terrifying. I think this led to Lil Yachty using similar searches to create the cover of his new album which I think is wonderfully creepy. BUT if it ultimately pushes out artists who specialize in that kind recreation/manipulation, then that is the real horror story.
