  • Which LP to remake

Suppose the current Yes lineup was going to remake a prior Yes album and put their own spin on it. Which should it be?

  • #2
No Jon no Yes. Having said that, the only one I can think of redoing would be doing Magnification with synthesizers. At least it would still be Jon's lyrics.

        Covers album:

Side 1 Skyscraper Souls by DBA

Side 2 Songs by Prefab Sprout

        Modernist pop-prog. With orchestration by
        Paul K. Joyce.

        Produced by Steve Howe

        Cover by Roger Dean.

        Perfect.

None. They have essentially done it during all those album tours since Davison joined the band.
          Not on Yes' payroll.

I'd say Circa, Asia, or Turbulence. Or perhaps OYE....

I brought the idea of Fragile II up on other thread, but if not that, then my choice of a remake would be Fragile with different solos since we have 4 different people in Yes now, Steve's acoustic solo can be different too. But everyone will have to do new solos: an electronic Downes piece, an acoustic song with lyrics for Jon Davison, a drum solo I guess for Jay and Billy would have to come up with his own bass theme song (the Fish was Chris' theme song).

Only other ones I could think of would be the first album, Time & A Word without orchestra, or most any Rabin-era album. I still say I can hear Steve's pedal steel crying to be heard towards the end of Endless Dream.

I like Talk but think it could be done differently.
And Magnification without orchestra sounds worth a try too.

I would add: No Chris no Yes.

I don't think OYE myself. It's one of my least favourite Yes albums, but Squire was very present in that one, and losing that ingredient would destroy a lot of what little I do like about it.

None. Bloody pointless as those projects are never better than the original. See Roger Waters version of DSOTM or the acoustic cover album U2 did of their own songs. Bloody pointless and al too often bloody awful as well.

The correct answer is none of them.

Redoing Trooper/Panther/YesWest albums with recent people? Can't imagine any upside to this idea. No Squire? No Bruford, or at least White? No Anderson, or at least Rabin/Horn? I would not spend money on such an album when I have access to the originals.

The new people aren't untalented, but this re-recording concept is a hard no.

                            This is the correct answer.

Shhhh! Just in case Jon Anderson redoes Relayer as a solo album, playing everything himself and reading the lyrics as poetry....
