  • Best Yes Live Albums 1971-1980 (Official or Unofficial)

I only know Yessongs and Yesshows. Among the unofficial ones are there any that surpass them in terms of audio and/or performance?

Get the Progeny box or at least the Highlights set and also The Word Is Live

    Must have boots IMHO:

New Haven 1971 (soundboard…Get the Tooleman version that fixes the missing opening of “Yours Is No Disgrace”)
Boston 1974 (Relayer tour-matrix version that combines radio broadcast recording with the Dan Lampinski tape)
    Roosevelt Stadium 1976 (radio broadcast)
Los Angeles 1977 (Mike Millard recording)
    Wembley 1978 (radio broadcast)
    Montreal 1979 (soundboard)
Los Angeles 1980 (Mike Millard recording, sounds better than the radio broadcast from MSG and is the complete show)

      Thanks.! I'll look for those.

Yeah, I have a really hard time picking Tales recordings because they all sound “bad” to me, just “bad” in different ways even though the performances are exceptional. That’s why I didn’t put any shows from that tour on my list.

                  My Top 10 :

                  1. Montreux 2003 / Glastonbury 2003 (both are awesome)

                  2. UNION Live (maybe doesn't deserve to be this high but for sentimental reasons)

                  3. Songs From Tsongas 2004

                  4. YESSONGS / Progeny - Seven Shows From '72

                  5. TOPGRAPHIC DRAMA (best Live release from the Davison Era IMHO)

                  6. Symphonic LIVE (probably deserves to be higher. Best Live versions of "Ritual" and "Gates of Delirium")

                  7. The Word Is LIVE (only officially-released LIVE stuff from Tormato and Big Generator Tours on here)

                  8. House of YES '99 (great Tour, but the mix on this was lame.....plenty of great boots from the Khoroshev Era are worth seeking out)

                  9. YES 50 (they should have released the whole show instead of the edited one-disc version)

                  10. YESSHOWS (over-rated ! )

My favorite official album is Yesshows, by a country mile. Probably 9012Live after that, then Progeny.

Unofficially, Quebec 1979 (not Montreal, Frum) or Wembley 1978.
