  • Rabin Albums vs David Albums vs Davison Albums vs Horn Albums

Probably the top 3 of the most polarizing members of the band's history with the fanbase. Studio output only to level the playing field removing the live component and Father Time. Now that MttS has been out for a couple of week, all material has been released unlike when I conducted the prior poll of basically the Davison years vs the Rabin years where the Rabin years won. Now that MttS has been listened to, reviewed, and critiqued, I suspect that gap will close.

As a curveball as I was about to post, I have added Horn on the two albums where his vocals are prominent and is polarizing as well.

    Which era do you prefer?

Rabin: 90125, BG, Union (Yeswest tracks), and Talk
David: FFH and From A Page
    Davison: H&E, TQ, and MttS
    Horn: Drama and FFH-RT

Will David steal votes from Rabin and Davison this time? Does the presence of Drama negate all the other listed albums above?

Yes, Drama negates all the others for me, so it’s Horn, based on that one album alone vs any of the others. And I’m as big a JA fan as there is out there. Lol.

well Drama, 90125, Mirror to the Sky and Fly From Here all rate very highly to me so I am unable to vote!

        hmmm but breaking it down:

Drama is a 9, I refuse to recognise RT- a pointless exercise.

        90125 is a 9, BG is a 9, Union a 7, Talk an 8.

        FFH is a 9, FaP is a 7.

        H&E is a 5, TQ is an 8, MTTS is a 9.

so in summary taking consistency into consideration over time the Rabin era wins out, though I do think its quite an obvious choice. The band has done remarkably well in recent years IMO long after their peak.

I think this applies for me, too. I like much of the other eras as well, but Drama is so fundamentally strong and purply that it, alone, sways my decision.

The vocal harmonies of the Rabin era put that one over the top for me. Really dislike Horn and Davison as lead vocalists.

I go Horn. Drama is most likely my favorite Yes album, so its gotta be that, though the Rabin years come pretty close.

Also, I personally lump the original Fly From Here with David as a Horn-era album. Horn produced it and wrote a lot of it and coached David on how to sing those tracks to sound like him. But oddly enough, even though 90125 was also produced by Horn and had a couple writing credits, I still consider that a Rabin one rather than a Horn one.

I think Drama is the best album out of all of these. But with that being said for me the Rabin albums have the most consistent quality, compared to the other(s) output.

Drama is a 10 and blows away (by miles) anything that came after it. So it goes to Horn but if it were just the two D’s and Rabin, Rabin wins hands down.

Voted Horn, as Drama to me is easily in my top 3 Yes albums all time.

Hmmm… does a Rabin win here imply that ARW > Yes? Just curious because I see an undercurrent on this and it’s predecessor site now and then. Maybe as a proxy for Anderson v. Howe?

Anyway, Don’t Blame Me — I Voted For Horn!

haha.... only if ARW could write an album and even then probably not!

Correct. But, 90125 is the one classic out of all these albums (Drama is only good.) But, still I most go against the current. 😅

I have heard a recent rumor that I cannot confirm nor deny that the Rabin album was delayed three months because there has been a small change to the cover.

It is now: Yes on top and "Rio" on the bottom.
