I think you're right. I can't think of anything more I might need from the Close to the Edge sessions or subsequent tour. It would just be more of what we already have, although maybe a budget reissue of the Progeny box, for those who missed out in 2015? I've got the box and the highlights album so I'm covered, but I know several fans who regret not getting the box at the time because of the price. It was about £60 I think.

I also think the CTTE mine has pretty well been mined out, and all we are likely to get is a live album from the current tour. Let's hope it's the full setlist and not a cut down one, as their recent live albums have tended to be.

Thinking about the CTTE 50th has made me think about the upcoming Tales and Relayer anniversaries and whether we might get anything for those, or even what I'd want to see. Obviously, top of the list would be some Progeny-style archival live sets, but I imagine there's very little chance of that. I'd settle for a good single-show live album from each tour, or even an expansions of Yesshows.

Even though it has been released and re-released many times, the absence of any kind of physical product is still a missed opportunity. 50th anniversary was the same with regard to the absence of any definitive physical product to mark the occasion. As far as what material could have possibly been included for a CTTE anniversary release, it would have been a great idea to have the current band release a new studio recording of the album. Could have even had a few alumni fly in some overdub contributions via the web for some alternate takes. There are always possibilities for these things, but I guess it takes the will, organization and funds. Yes, one can dream.

Overall, I’ve found the recent Tull sets to be the very model of what I want from a remaster: the appropriate b-sides and demos, often a couple we’ve never heard before, plus a concert from the era. And really good liner notes. The Crimson boxes are a wee bit too much for me (ie, my wallet), much as I adore them.

But having said that, between Progeny and the run-through on the SW remix of CTTE, I just don’t see anything left, and in all honesty, none of the people involved are as good a storyteller as Ian Anderson for providing some fun reading to go along with the tunes.

Maybe that cover Roger was working on — floating rocks on blue — will end up somewhere else after all…

The Grateful Dead have been doing 50th Anniversary reissues of their catalog, but those have all been fleshed out with live recordings from around the time of the original albums. Yes wasn't professionally recorded in concert nearly as often as the Dead were, so the options are fewer--especially given that Progeny has already been released.

Amusingly, the Europe '72 anniversary reissue has absolutely nothing extra except a new remastering, since the entire tour had already been issued in a huge box set a decade ago. Rhino even removed the extra live material that had been included on the previous remaster of E72--they've also annoyingly been doing this on the other Dead anniversary reissues, cutting out a lot of essential bonus material (b-sides and extras, not just demos).

He has implied as much, but seriously, that rainy day seems like it’ll be the funeral day of him or one of us. I mean, none of us are getting any younger. What the hell is he waiting for?
