    First is favorite?

This seems to be a recurring theme. My first was Relayer, but my favorite is CTTE.
Is your first Yes album your favorite? And is that a bias?

    First was FRAGILE.

I'm still quite fond of it. No duds or misfires on the album.

My favorite? There are several. Today's order:

    1. Talk
    2. Relayer
    3. TfTO
    4. Drama
    5. Fragile
    6. 90125

Fly From Here was my first newly released Yes album and it is one of my faves. Actually I got lots of Yes albums at once one christmas, prior to that 2011 release, my top ten:
      1. Going for the One
      2. Close to the Edge
      3. Relayer
      4. The Yes Album
      5. Fragile
      6. Drama
      7. 90125
      8. Magnification
      9. Fly From Here
      10. Big Generator

First was Topographic Oceans, and yes, that - along with Relayer [my second] remains my favourite. I actually went out Boxing Day [dec 26th] the Christmas after and spent my money on CTTE and Fragile... and Yessongs a few weeks later. Enjoyed the buzz around Going for the One, and seeing them live for the first time; and love Drama, too.

Hmm, maybe not favourite, but first maybe remains "newest"? Like, I can still remember the feeling of my first Yes album, 90125, pouring through the credits and liner notes, and at that time (it was a gift) not knowing anything about anyone involved: as stone cold a listener as one could hope for. Next on the list was Yessongs, which, was this even the same band? Really? Both to this day sound so new, so fresh and kind of otherworldly, like the band is made of great sonic explorers finding new ways to put sounds and words together. (This is a bit subjective.) If they don't have many other "breakthrough" albums, well, I'll remember Steve Jobs talking about how lucky you are to have *one* breakthrough in your field, never mind the [insert number here depending on your susceptibility to the Reality Distortion Field] he was introducing on that particular day… Two or three breakthrough and reinvention albums is a lot.

Fragile was my first Yes album purchase. I think a lot of us choose either the album we started with, or one from that era as our favorite. Shortly after I digested Fragile, I acquired The Yes Album, Close to the Edge was released, then Tales from Topographic Oceans, and my first Yes concert appearance followed. Over the course of around 18 months I was fully immersed in what would be my favorite band for the rest of my life.

Close To The Edge, first in the summer of 1973, and it remains my favourite.
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

Drama was the first album I got (late Dec 1984), Big Generator was the first new album to be released after I had become a fan. and for favorite, Drama is the one I keep coming back to as a favorite - though each appearing album had been considered 'favorite' when they just came out. At different times Tales, Relayer, Close To The Edge and Talk have also all been favorites at some point, but Drama is more or less the favorite Yes album.

Often the first album from a band one hears becomes their favorite, but not always.

                  My top 10
                  1) Drama
                  2) Topographic Oceans
                  3) Relayer
                  4) Close To The Edge
                  5) Yes Album
                  6) Yessongs
                  7) Talk
                  8) Yes
                  9) Fly From Here - original
                  10) Tormato or Big Generator

I came into Yes in 1985, but not with one album, but four albums simultaneously; Fragile, Close to the Edge and Relayer through one friend, who's dad owned those albums and 90125 through another friend, who's brother kept up with the latest chart released and owned that album. The three of us somehow loved to explore music outside the hitparade of then and what our classmates liked and what was popular. The father of the one friend also had several ELP albums, Genesis, but also Mahanuvishnu Orchestra, Return to Forerver, Weather Report etc. So that is were my love for progressive music stems from.

Close to the Edge and Relayer are my favourite Yes albums.

90125 was my first. I bought it when it was still rather new (on cassette in 1983/84). Next was classic Yes (if we can count then). After that it was Fragile and then Relayer next. Relayer is my favorite so in this case my first is not my favorite. These days 90125 is middle of the pack Yes for me (at best). I probably even prefer BG over it.

Fragile was my first, but it’s not my favorite. Either Going for the one or Yesshows is probably my favorite if I had to limit things. Thankfully, I don’t.

Um, my first Yes Album was Classic Yes in 1987. That CD is long gone, but it's still probably the most consequential $10 to $15 bucks I ever spent.

Do you know the cover was the design for a hotel/attraction in Sydney to be built for the '88 Bicentennary. They chose a Chinese Pavilions and Garden instead. One of my favourite covers.
