Sad to see it go, even if I was only there for a relatively short amount of time. I met a lot of cool people there, and I'm glad a lot of them have gone here as well.
It was kind of a shock to see Tim's message when I went over there sometime after midnight. We knew the end was neigh, but it came a day early.
Still, I think the most important thing is that we had enough time to get this site rolling with some good forum software, some people registered, some discussions started, and hopefully everyone who may want to join us at least knows the way now, or knows someone who can show it to them.
Nothing is ever exactly the same. Even had the old Yesfans carried on, it inevitably would have evolved with the membership, the band, the Internet, and the world itself. So, given some time, there may be no discernable difference between what we will have here and what we could have had there had it continued, apart from a URL and ownership change. If nothing else, Tim was going to have to go from the "http://" to the "https://" protocol eventually. Browsers were already marking the old site insecure and eventually will stop loading "http://" sites at all. We're on "https://" over here from day one, so all is well on that front. . Tim also presumably was going to have to update the software eventually, we just got an earlier upgrade with John's forum (Same company's software).
There's a certain sadness, but also some hope for the future. If the old site had to end, having a second site like this ready to go is pretty close to the ideal next best thing.
I don't want to minimize the sadness and shock people are feeling in any way, I'm right there with you all- I'm just saying thank goodness we can talk about it here and aren't just scattered to the winds and told to root around on social media. I think there's something to be said for a good old fashioned message forum like this one! 👍
"A lot of the heavier conversations I was having with Chris toward the end were about his desire for this thing to go forward. He kept reiterating that to me. [...] He kept telling me, 'No matter what happens, Yes needs to continue moving forward and make great music. So promise me that that's something you want to do.'. And I have to keep making music. It's just what I do. [...] I'm a fan of the band and I want to see it thrive and that means new music." -Billy Sherwood
