  • Taylor Hawkins is Dead at Age 50

In addition to being the drummer for the Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins was also a good personal friend of Yes lead vocalist Jon "Juano" Davison going back to childhood, and was, like us all, a Yes fan.

There were some videos floating around in past years of Juano and Hawkins on the same stage as adults, including one of Davison performing Rush's "Tom Sawyer" with Hawkins and the Foo Fighters, and, separately, of Chris Squire, Jon Davison, and Taylor Hawkins playing several Yes songs together at a Bass Player Live ceremony where Squire received a life time achievement award. (Update: I've tracked some of these down and embedded them on post two of this thread.). Hard to believe that of those three guys, two are now dead.

One thing the article mentions that I was not aware of was that Hawkins was the drummer on Alanis Morisette's iconic Jagged Little Pill album.

As of the time I am posting this, the article lists no cause of death for Hawkins, but sometimes the site in question does update it's articles as more information comes in, so it may say something on the subject by the time you read it.

Condolences to all those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace.
The band was preparing to play a show in Bogota, Colombia, when it announced Hawkins' death.

"A lot of the heavier conversations I was having with Chris toward the end were about his desire for this thing to go forward. He kept reiterating that to me. [...] He kept telling me, 'No matter what happens, Yes needs to continue moving forward and make great music. So promise me that that's something you want to do.'. And I have to keep making music. It's just what I do. [...] I'm a fan of the band and I want to see it thrive and that means new music." -Billy Sherwood

That "impromptu band" was at a ceremony for Bass Player live where Squire got a life time achievement award.

I'm not a fan of the Foo Fighters, but nevertheless this is terrible news. Only 50 years old and in the middle of a tour. Must be horrific for his family and fellow band members. Rest in Peace.

Thank you. I will edit my post to correct the misinformation. No disrespect was intended to anyone involved. All three men have been involved in some music I've really enjoyed.

Tonight is a very sad night for many of Mr. Hawkins' fans around the world. I don't think anyone really saw this coming.

I'm a big fan of maybe 20 of their songs and this is sad. By weird coincidence, I just saw an interview with Paul Carrack of Mike & The Mechanics/Ace fame -also a big fan of 20 songs -and remember that singer Paul Young died in a hotel room at 52 of a heart attack attributed to cocaine use. I liked Hawkins simply because in interviews he came across as an optimistic guy.

Yes, he was indeed a very likable character.

Reason for death not released yet.
Recent heart attack deaths of prominant Australians
in their 50s. Shane Warne. Our top cricketer. Kimberley Kitching. A senator. One due to hard living and poor diet. The other rumoured to be stress related from politics. 2 seemingly happy and powerful people.

My local baker, George died of a heart attack at 38. A hardworkin'guy. Very vibrant. No warning. Sad news indeed.

Terrible news. My musical heroes dying at 75 or 70 years of age is hard to take, but at 50 ! RIP Taylor.

Was only listening to the Foo's new 'metal' album before bed last night. Just woke up to this.

                  Terrible.

Rest In Peace he was the drummer I actually wanted to replace White in the mid 10’s

the story about Hawkins I always think of in the middle of Foo Fighters tour they were in California and Davison’s yes tribute band’s drummer was sick and Taylor showed up on his day off rehearsed and played the full set with the band because he was that hardcore into yes

he also made members of foo fighters play heart of the sunrise in honor of Chris

                        a honest shame

                        rest in peace

Bogota Metropolitan police are apparently reporting Hawkins' death could be related to the consumption of narcotic substances.

Colombian police believe the death of FOO FIGHTERS drummer Taylor Hawkins was drug related. The 50-year-old musician was found dead in a hotel room at the Casa Medina in Bogota on Friday (March 25). Earlier today (Saturday, March 26),the Office Of The Attorney General Of Colombia released a stateme...

Makes it even more sad. Age 50, a wife, three children. But drugs and addiction are a bitch.

Very sad news about Taylor Hawkins. He was a long time close school friend of our YES vocalist, Jon Davison and often turned up backstage at our Cali shows. Always came across as a lovely, funny and super-talented guy. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. 🙏🏻
