    Apollo revisited

Put on the blu ray yesterday for the first time in a while

what a great show, and considering how the project folded, what a treat to have an official document.

still a shame about the fake crowd noise, but it’s less invasive in the 5.1 mix at least….

incidentally, I watched it back to back with Yes’ Bristol 2014 gig.

What a difference in energy, interaction, and overall mood.

I can imagine. In my own experience, the 2014 Three Albums tour gig, is probably the worst Yes concert I have attended. The 2016 and 2018 concerts I saw were much, much better and much closer in energy to the ARW concert I also attended in 2018.

I still hope that one day it might get a remix and re-release. The crowd thing drives me nuts and makes it largely unlistenable. Such a shame because it was the most exciting thing to happen in Yes world over the last few years. I had long given up hope of seeing Trevor again so being able to watch him play once more was fantastic.

Does anyone know if they filmed other gigs for potential release, or did they “just” film Manchester?

Just Manchester as far as I know.

I think it's more noticeable on the video because you can see the crowd reaction versus what you're hearing on the audio. With the album itself you can just sort of move it to the background of your perception, as it were.

How extensive are vocal overdubs (if at all)?

I’ll be honest, I’ve played this album a lot, but never watched any video, so I’ve never really even noticed the fake crowd noise. Spoiler: my ears may not be the best. But as it’s not a problem for me, I can just enjoy the performances, and I love it. Everything except the album cover…

2nd'd. I never notice it, have never watched video. I love the LP. My main complaint is that the show is utterly safe and obvious from a setlist standpoint. And yeah the art is lame but it's not actually ugly so that's not really a complaint from me. The vinyl's orange to match, so it looks spiffy enough as a package.

don't know if there's an audience recording available for comparison

                      good point

the audience roar that is flown in every x second is
1: obviously that of a much larger crowd (at least to my ears)
2: often obviously not in synch with a seated audience

It seems like some future remix could exclude any overdubs. In my minimum experience (one show each on two ARW tours), the vocals were fine. I’d rather hear the imperfect real performance, flubs and all.

I don't know - there was a lot of treatment on Jon's vocals in the live mix itself so I might be apt to say it wasn't really fussed with.

I didn't know that. I know he admitted in an interview to using Autotune on the 1.000 Hands tour. Is that what was used on the ARW tours as well?

Yeah, something of the sort. Plus there was also reverb.
