Next Concept Album?

I would only want them to do a concept album if they were truly inspired, not because it was expected of them. I don't think I ever have a desire for a band/artist to create that kind of work for a particular idea of mine, but if they do then I'm interested to hear it. I'd be equally fine if they didn't make a concept album.

Maybe they could do a concept album about a fictitious prog band that goes through over 20 band members through the years. They could have a singer character with a real high voice, and a member who wears long capes and one character who worships his guitars. They could have album covers featuring flying rocks and a producer character who's got big Elton John glasses. Sounds ridiculous, but I think it may work...

And I don’t think anyone thinks they will produce an epic moving forward. Although obviously I can’t speak for Everyone. Just my feeling.
let me guess
has to be with Anderson squire and Howe and released from 71-79
am I close?

It’s like talking to a kid.
Suggestion for you - capital letters to start sentences, or phrases, and the use of punctuation would be nice in your posts.Last edited by RedSonja; 06-22-2022, 08:53 AM.

Then, in post 20 on this thread, you say "Shelve it. They’re done.".
One might be forgiven for thinking you mainly only like the 70s stuff.
I do take your point that The Quest doesn't have any songs of epic length ala the tracks on Tales from the Topographic Oceans. However, 2011's Fly From Here (Their third to most recent studio album) had an interconnected sequence of songs to start the album that was way over 20 minutes combined.
I also, to be honest, generally prefer bands keep their songs tight unless there is something like "Close to the Edge" that really merits a longer treatment and doesn't ever lag or feel repetitive. I mean, I love "The Ice Bridge", but I would not have wanted them to randomly double it in length the way some newer prog groups do with their songs. The Flower Kings have a song called "Love is the Only Answer" that wouldn't be bad with a runtime of about 6 minutes. Instead it's almost 25 minutes and makes me want to throw my phone at a wall.. Song length inflation has actually become a real problem in the subgenre.

He kept reiterating that to me. [...] He kept telling me, 'No matter what happens, Yes needs to continue moving forward and make great music. So promise me that that's something you want to do.'. And I have to keep making music. It's just what I do. [...] I'm a fan of the band and I want to see it thrive and that means new music." -Billy Sherwood
