"We all gotta climb mountains!" - Jon Anderson 2003

An example that Yes always sticked too much to their well known classics from their kanon TYA till GFTO and thereby did not give a lot of great material the chance to grow into classics.

Just some! examples wildly taken from all eras: Future Times/Rejoice, Dreamtime, Shoot High, Aim Low and the one I voted for here, New Language, intriguing Yes-like zig-zaggingand highly atmospheric. And great modernised keyboards inspired by Wakey.

Like 'em both. Just playing along. HW gets the slight nod as it is so epic and glorious. Really should be in the set Billy? C'mon man.

NL is twisty and turny and a nice lyrical spin on classic Jonisms. Noice. Different.

Both are excellent later Yes stuff .... I'd have to give HW the nod as well, as I remember getting chills from that. New Languages, I remember wanting to change the arrangement on that slightly but I cant remember why. I'll have to listen soon.

Voted New Language, but mostly because I’ve seen some comments about the verses being corny. They’re not.,

I really love both, but to me Homeworld is the standout piece on The Ladder

Fine pieces to start and finish a fine album with: Distinctive, energetic, melodically rich.
Yes, I know Nine Voices is the last track on The Ladder, and it's a lovely epilogue, but....
I can't single one out over the other, as it's the progression from one to the other that works so well...
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

I like The Ladder, it is Yes most kaleidoscopic album. But I always had problems with Homeworld, it is one of the few Yestracks in which I miss the tension between heavenly beauty and a certain earthiness. It's only beautiful, which is not enough for a Yestune :-) And well, a little cheesy it is...

HW has one of Jon's greatest vocal deliveries. Raspy, strained then ultimately transcendant. "Ascend. Ascending to the future" is one of my fave Yes moments. For the chills. The band are on fire

The results now show 55-45 for Homeworld, and it kind of represents how I feel
I really like both, but Homeworld just adds something more to the epic feeling that puts it to the front to me.

The Ladder is a great latter day album. It's bloody hard to start ranking individual tracks against each other. Anyway I did, but it was likely closer than 55-45! 😀

New Languages for me. Like both but New Languages is just a cut above for me. Homeworld had the potential to be an epic Yes piece but it needed an bit more of something. Maybe Wakeman?

Homeworld for me, and it's one of the few songs where I like the single edit better than the album version. Speaking of Homeworld, I think Billy channeled a bit of that song into Minus the Man, but with better results this time around (IMO.)
