  • Ritual (Nous Sommes du Soleil) reaction

Latest episode of the Daily Doug, rounding out Doug's Tales experience.
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

Glad he loved it, Ritual is always a joy. One of my absolute favourite Yes songs for sure.

I love Ritual, but my go to version these days is the Yesshows version. Such incredible energy on that version.

Doug has been going through the original album, using the Steven Wilson mix. As he says in his intro, Revealing Science he did last year, but the rest of it much more recently. I'll always prefer the original album to any recorded live versions. Actually being there for a live performance is a different thing, of course. I listened to the Yesshows Ritual this morning walking into work, and it's how I've always thought of it , a bit of a badly recorded mess.

There were some noticeable differences when I listened to the Wilson mix of Ritual on Doug's channel. Those differences weren't things I necessarily liked, and I was surprised at the changes. Of course, it could have been because I'm listening to it 3rd hand through Doug's channel, so I'll be circumspect.

I enjoyed his reactions & insights as I usually do, but Fucking Youtoob, a VERY LOUD ad in the middle of the bass solo, freezing at the start of the closing guitar bit.
Ok fine, put unskippable ads at the start, but don’t randomly throw them in the middle of vids 🤬 .
so the flowering creativity of life smacked in the face by the shallow

I've been enjoying a 3-month free offer on YouTube Premium, which ends on Nov 20, but which I'll be continuing with. It's been great to not have ads for the last three months.

Doug's initial reason for using the Steven Wilson remix, aside from it being a pleasing (to my old ears) refinement/enhancement of the original, and previous CD issues, was that it was divided into four or five chunks, allowing him to pause it to comment. Happily however, he only did this with Revealing Science, and let the remaining parts of Tales play without pause.
