Who should write the new album?

So we have probably plenty of time before we get the 2025 yes album

but since the band are already writing it who should do the bulk of the writing

honestly i like All connected by Howe Davison and Sherwood and want more from them

obviously i will push for Downes/Davison (especially if it means Horizons could come from it)

i would like to see Schellen possibly be a writer as Bruford and White both have yes songs to their name

thats about it in terms of writing I can think of

    The fans.

They should have fans submit demos of their compositions, and the band gets to choose which they'll record.

I’m most enthused about the group writing: the more songs that have input from more members, the better. That was always part of the magic of the bigger compositions for me, so to see some three-member credits on MttS is a step in the right direction.

Group writing for sure since all of them are song writers.

I’m sure Henry or someone has crunched the numbers on songs by number of writers, both with and without the albums just credited to everyone, which are sometimes accurate and sometimes feel more about keeping the agents and lawyers happy… There are some excellent solo compositions, for sure, but for the most part, there’s a wonderful alchemy that comes about when such different ingredients get added to the mix, if you’ll pardon the very mixed metaphor. But at any rate, I think MttS features the first three or more band member writes since, what, “Into the Storm” 12 years ago? About time!

A Trevor Rabin co-write or two would be cool.*

*yes, this isn’t going to happen. I know. Still, it would be cool.

                Glad no one said AI.

MttS shows the development of the power triangle of H D + S. Downes is supportin' this in subtle ways. Davison can hear new Steve music and write bass lines to fit. Billy knows how production works and the intricacies of the studio. Jay and him are old road warriors together.

Has Howe explored his old archives for music and lyrics more in the last few years? Findin' some ol' nuggets?

Downes is always creatin' music. Think that for MttS, H and D had momentum carried over from TQ. Left little space for his original contributions.

Songwritin' is a muscle that gets stronger the more you use it said Canadian Mark and Juano in the recent YMP podcast. So the combinations of personalities is developin' and the strength of this is showin'.

There'll probably be a line-up change by then...maybe Steve retiring and a new line-up of Davison Downes Haun Sherwood Schellen. Being the only non American, Geoff will leave too in 2026 to leave room for a fully American Yes adding Brislin. In 2028 Steve will come back with an album and ask Jon A to guest and they'll share a stage for a farewell tour.. By then US Yes will have released 3 or 4 more albums. Voila. Sorry to spoil everything for you guys.

Yes together. Input from as many members as possible/appropriate for each song. And then revision of songs by all. And again...

Yes is not a band I think it would be easy to accept an album written by one member. There are other bands who use that process and I prefer it. I think in Yes, the more writers the better. I want it to get harder to tell if any one member has a more prominent role in any given song.

I would be cool with an album of mostly Horn/Downes writing. That's just me. But any combo is cool by me. I do like the 3-member contributions, Yes usually has two man writing credits on a lot of stuff. But large group compositions is welcome. Tales, Relayer and Drama are all credited to 'Yes' or to the five members involved with each album, and those are three of my favorite Yes albums.

I suppose we could rule out Jon Anderson, Pete Banks, Tony Kaye, Rick Wakeman, Chris, Alan and and of course Tony O’Reilly. I don’t believe Danny or Hillary Swank or anyone named Hillary for that matter may be involved. Perhaps some new AI where no one writes, sings or plays a damn thing, written by machine on new technology.

How many people are in the band, Danny? Math:variables/ combinations should be easy. I don’t believe my input will be required or asked for ever since I wrote the entire concept and album for Close to the Edge.

Try to spend less time coming up with the first threads on everything bullshite. Taking time for things to evolve and proceed naturally, and at a realistic pace would be best, and put you in a better light.

“R.i.p. Danny who had to be first at everything in the YESworld.

“Doesn’t esp. sound flattering or have a good look, just like this place:this thread . The new album hasn’t even been released or streamed publicly. And what makes you think Steve in the boys didn’t come up with not one, not two, but three albums in the can? ;-)
