Did Roger ever do a painting for Tomato?

Like for Going For The One, he did one but the band didn't want to use it, it could've looked like this

Whoah, did he really do that for GFTO? That would have been cool! I do like the hipgnosis sleeves we got, but having Dean ones would have been very cool too.

Yes I didn't know either and it's called Flight of Icarus, you can Google it for a larger version

Story goes Roger passed the G4T1 onto Yes then management who buried it. After that episode Roger was p'd off and not even Steve's loyalty could sway Tormato's destiny to have another Hipgnosis cover. Who were so hot right then.

        Sanity was restored with Drama.

TQ's cover is brilliant. Even has nod to Chris.

Well I don't mind the GFTO album cover as is with its Man and the construction of the future idea, the Roger Dean cover may still have been an improvement. Tormato's cover was awful, I do wish Roger had done something for that.

The music is more important than the cover. I suspect they will continue with Dean as long as possible for “legitimacy” sake.
            Not on Yes' payroll.

Not a bad cover in and of itself, but wrong album, maybe: I've said before that it might have been a better cover for Drama or maybe even 90125 (although that cover is perfect) as a way of indicting a new direction or sound within; instead, the music of GFTO is a strong connection to the Fragile/CTTE/TFTO run, so in that sense a Dean cover makes sense.

Having said that, I also feel there's a certain laziness to the Roger Dean approach: at least up to TFTO, there's a sense he was at least aware of and responding to the music within, but even with Relayer, for which I do love the image, it's a kind of "off-the-shelfness", and lately he's been stuck with the same fonts/typographic/logo approaches, so much so that anyone could grab a painting from the back catalog, centre the logo on it, and set the album title in the RD typeface. Done and done.

Disagree with Relayer cover "being off the shelf". Has reference to riders mentioned in Donald Lemkuhl's poem inside gatefold. Also Roger has mentioned Templar knights on a journey that chimes with the "stand and fight we do consider reminded of an inner pact between us seen as we go and ride there ."

Then one of my favourite covers Drama where there is a shipwreck and 3 prowling Panthers and 2 new high flying birds. Clever narrative invention with a wink to the diehard believers.

The Ladder features a glass city that climbs up and up like a ladder.

All those Live albums, not so much. The worst? The apricot elbow-rock anthology cover. Forget the title. Bought it though at the time. An elbow-rock? Is that all we get?

TQ is back to peak Roger. A melting glacier with a distant ice bridge to cross as a homage in memoriam rock-figure stands surveying the landscape and the challenge ahead is enough to be moved to tears. Sublime.

Some say it was Roger Dean, and not Rick Wakeman, who threw a tomato/tomatoes at the Tormato album cover. ;-)

I didn’t know that. Nice! Is it that in his eigthies book? Have to check that.

Q: What is the nod to Chris Squire on the cover of THE QUEST??

                        AA!

Look at bottom right of the painting. The rock pillar leaning on the big rock. Back view of Chris with his long hair and full coat.

Also the stained glass logo calls back to FOOW cover.

                        (Missing the Man?)

As always in 《YES》World, those theories are up for debate. Someone has to get Roger on the record.

Hipgnosis did some iconic album art, but they didn’t really “get” Yes.

Supposedly Jon wanted to either add his own artwork to one of Roger's paintings or vice-versa, and Dean refused. There was also a minor disagreement on TFTO whether or not the fish should have bubbles.

Wow. Unbelievable. Massive liberty. Like staring up the ladder and telling Michelangelo, maybe the fingers should actually touch.

Jon actually rates those paintings of his.
