    Absolute Beginners w/ Rick

Forgot about this gem from The Dame. Until it magically scrolled up on my YT feed. Happenstance?
After Let's Dance this nugget got Bowie back on track. Doo wop beginning, then pure operatic melodrama.
In another video he chases a beautiful zebra-woman around the Thames at night. As you do.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Live version esp. showcases the piano figures. Recorded by Rick in the studio in 85. Those sessions with Steve Nieve, Luis Jardem and the
guitarist for Prefab Sprout also, were for a Mister X. No one knew who the artist was. Such skulduggery. For a film about
racism in the UK? Never saw it. The fact Bowie Married Iman said more about love and relations than any polemic, film, novel and song could ever do.

If you have the stomach here is the former first lady of France singing a piano-led version.
Think of Melania Trump singing it. Carla's hubby is in jail for fraud? * Rich people should be happy just to be rich, n'est pas?

I know it's not her first language, but Jesus, Joseph and Mary she murders it? Am I being too unkind?????

      * Nope. Serving time in home detention. Oh the West. Such a shining example to maligned countries the world over.

Well, that's my morning ruined And no you're not too unkind. I reckon this was supposed to come out as a great smokey voiced, jazzy version. Instead it sounds like it was recorded after a night of heavy smoking and drinking with a complete hangover. Now, for some coffee.....

Always liked this song, one of Bowie's best from the 80's. Epic, anthemic, should have been on one of his own solo albums. After 'simplifying' his sound for Let's Dance and Tonight, Absolute Beginners sounds closer to classic Bowie. I also didn't know Rick was on it until a bit later. I might have thought that piano was Mike Garson who played on Aladin Sane. Never seen the film though, never crossed my path. I know Bowie has two other songs on the soundtrack besides Absolute Beginners.
