  • Something Fishy About Rick’s Stolen Keyboards?

I debated whether to post this. I wanted to see if it would be picked up somewhere else first. Earlier this month, keyboardist Rudi Dobson (toured with Bee Gees and Billy Joel) made some shocking allegations regarding Rick’s stolen keyboards, in reply to a tweet by Geoff Downes.

I dunno, I'm a little allergic to posting stuff like this. From what I can see so far, it's unsubstantiated, seems based on hearsay, and you never know if perhaps it's Mr Dobson who might be mistaken/have incorrect info or perhaps even have an axe to grind. What motive would Wakeman have to lie about it? Is there more to the story? Obviously I have no clue if there's anything to this because I wasn't there, but it's exactly the kind of stuff that feeds people apparent need to believe the worst about people.

I went to look at RudiDobson's thread on the matter, but honestly couldn't get beyond reading a few of his horrible hate-filled tweets about various ethnic groups and nationalities. Nope. I'm not interested in trying to get into his mind.

Here's where Rick Wakeman directly refutes what RudiDobson was claiming:

I love Rick, but didn't he say he could see Yes going long past they're all dead and gone, then that Yes should have called it a day when Chris passed away? We all have the right to change our minds, but the truth is the truth. Was his gear really all returned?

This is all very strange. Rudi says he has messages with Erik, Rick’s tech, but I don’t think he’s released them.

Very strange… I don’t know why someone would make this up. I tend to think the guy is perhaps a bit unhinged. But he may have also found Rick’s gear for sale, or what he thought was his, and sent that information along. Who really knows?

Didn’t Rick have , within a years period of time, equipment stolen out of a van at or near the start of his short U.S. tour, and then returned home to the UK and had more equipment stolen some time later?

Stuff hapoens all the time with musicians unfortunately. Steve Via got his green violen guitar from his David Lee Roth days back after missing for years. A Mexican guy found it in his parents’ attic.
Didn’t YES with Benoit and Oliver have a bunch of equipment stolen the last segment of a tour in Mexico, too?

I can't get Rick's tweet to come up. Can someone copy and paste?

This is in response to a tweet where Rudi said this:

After reading Dobson's Twitter feed and the stuff he retweets, I believe Wakeman.

If he really had messages, why not post a screenshot of the WhatsApp conversation with Jordan?

Why have Erik lose his job, if it is true?

When folks post things publicly, ask for help locating items and possibly post a reward for said items be found, or returned, there should be some follow up if the reward items are/were found? Don’t know if this was done, but perhaps it should have been.

Some things/professions are a small world such as professional touring musicians on the island. Perhaps it was publicly mentioned that some of the equipment was found or not. I can certainly see someone doing the right thing, possibly getting excited if they found/spotted some of the missing gear, mentioning it to the right person, and not even a thank you. Also, I know people do small talk all the time and you can find out things the normal person can’t.

An acknowledgment or thank you can be the least thing someone wants. Esp someone in the business.

Erik, not Jordan. I blame that darn spellcheck. ;-)
