- they actually happened

- he believes they happened

- he's making them up

I think he honestly believes they happened.

Yeah, I mean, whatever else might be shuck-and-jive about Jon, his belief in the otherworldly is entirely honest.

And also his belief in spiritual energy. The day after the 2004 London show, the band did a signing at HMV record shop, and I had a chance to very briefly talk to Jon and all I basically did was thank him for the wonderful concert the night before, and how in particular And You And I had moved me that night. His eyes lit up and he smiled and started telling that especially during And You And I he had felt this cosmic energy between band and audience, that there was this beam of energy and light he only had experienced a few times before in concert and how amazing it was. It sounds a bit daft perhaps in hindsight, but he was completely genuine in expressing his feelings.
