  • Songs from Another World Vol.1

The Jon Anderson official YouTube channel has uploaded a new playlist called "Songs from Another World Vol.1". It's kind of an Anderson solo compilation. I don't know whether this was Jon's idea or just something by whoever runs his YouTube, but it's kinda an interesting approach to presenting his back catalogue.

The way it's titled "Vol. 1" makes you think it's got to be Jon's idea. He loves making things volume 1...

I had a listen to part of this the other evening. It seems Jon has double-tracked contemporary vocals on all the tracks which is a big strange. What makes it stranger is that as far as I can tell nothing has been remixed from the original multitracks so any new elements that have been added have literally been plastered on top of the master versions.

There's also some questionable "boom" sound effects with reverb on key parts of songs which weren't on the original mixes. (These impressions are mainly from listening to the two Song Of Seven tracks)

And just to top it off they've managed to use the vinyl-drop Opio master of Animation for "All In A Matter Of Time" instead of the more recent remaster from Esoteric.

Ha ha! Yep, as soon as I saw the title of the thread I thought, 'on no, not another volume 1 that we will never see the second volume of!!' 🤣🤣

Sounds like the title should have been "A Hodge Podge job, volume 1"😉

He's now uploaded another 3 volumes. I've not gone through to see if he's added overdubs to any of these.
