      only five??!
      1. Gates of Delirium
      2. Parallels
      3. Tempus Fugit
      4. Does it Really Happen
      5. I’m Running… out of space for Roundabout, Open Your Eyes, and so many other incredible bass lines! I’ll think of another one as soon as I post this.

Maybe my favorite Chris Squire performance is the vocals on “South Side of the Sky.”

          In chronological order:

          1-No Opportunity Necessary
          2-Yours Is No Disgrace
          3-Close to the Edge
          4-Gates
          5-Machine Messiah

There are plenty others, of course... I do have to mention "Hold Out Your Hand" and "Silently Falling" from FOOW.

Lots of great bass moments. So we're talking just the playing, not songwriting (Onward, Parallels etc), right?

            Sound Chaser
            Tempus Fugit
            Perpetual Change
            I'm Running
            Gates Of D.
            Survival
            Yours Is No D.
On The Silent Wings O' Freedom
City Of Love (simple as it is...)
            Dreamtime
            Parallels

wait, that's way more than 5. Just grab any 5 of the above, all great.

I just love how the “Parallels” chord progression (played on the organ) and bass line don’t really have anything to do with each other, yet interlock perfectly. Compare this to the bass part on the main riff of “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” for example. The difference is that Squire was the composer of “Parallels,” while on “Owner,” he was there to supplement the guitar part Rabin had written (I’m not sure what a bass player could to there except play along with such an iconic guitar riff). That is, until the bass part on the “after my own indecision” section, which has a lot of similarities to the main bass line of “Parallels.”

It really is tough to narrow it down to five. Which makes this an excellent thread.

Thanks for posting these “top five” questions. Looking forward to Rabin, Bruford, and Kaye (though Kaye might be tricky insofar as he might not have played on much of 90125).

So many to choose from - truly the sound that held the band together IMO

                              Close to the Edge
                              Roundabout

                              Future Times/Rejoice

How about another thread for his vocal contributions?
