    An interesting article.
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

Nice. The technical stuff passes me by, but that story of why the bass sounds so prominent on the early records is great. People tend to forget just how many things happen by chance and not design.

I've heard several people try to describe Chris's iconic bass tone with words and analogies, including 'rocks and boulders smashing together', 'thunderous', 'trebly'... just wondering how some of the Yes fans on here would describe his bass tone?

I’ve heard it was partially a simple case of his bass always being high in the mix. Could also be a visceral approach to the strings while predominantly using only one finger on the right hand, or using a pick.
All Dave Davies did was slash his speaker cones a bit, to get his iconic sound.

Interesting article . Thanks Arno. Yes, I believe Squire's base was always high in the mix. Interesting thing I noticed was when Wakeman was in the band he was a dominate figure. When Igor was in the band I had trouble hearing him in the mix at times.

Musicians are like golfers. When Squire was young his physical dominance , agility and incredible ability was awe inspiring.

Like golfers when musicians get old it can be painful to watch
