“But a throughline from the old material to the new carries us along. We’ve never been keen on leaning on what we’ve done; we’re always tweaking things. We’re always searching for any indicators of excitement or interest. So if we have an opportunity not to repeat ourselves on stage, we will take it.”
Man, I may have put my back out taking that with an excessively large grain of salt…

This “article” feels like a combination of gaslighting and being out of touch with reality. Rabin’s solo album can’t come soon enough.

Nothing really new though. Alan White always mentioned in interviews how Yes was still a band "always looking over the horizon", also in the 10 years between 2001 - 2011 that Yes did not release new music, but just toured the old stuff.

Did you not read the bit that followed “what’s the secret to not being repetitive”? I mean, really? Steve plays the same tired pedal steel licks and some folks, including pretend musical journalists just fawn all over it. It’s gaslighting in two directions. And then of course the same 3 or 4 people here who represent the Steve Howe Defense League have to chime in. Not necessarily you, Arno.

Then we have Steve in la la land thinking they’ve been on a “great run” with these last few albums. Once again, bring on Rio, my sense is that it will wipe the floor with the sham that is Yes these days. My guess is that it will have a lot more staying power in terms of the discussion it fosters on Yesfans. Who is still talking and wanting to talk about Mirror to the Stars?

Jay, it’s more than okay. The majority of articles and interviews are merely fluff, and complimentary pieces. That is almost the way it has been. You weren’t really expecting to read anything truly different from the norm were you, in all honesty? You weren’t.

You professionals have your own sessions you attend, I believe it is required. It is just a band. Still putting out new music which some still buy. That is saying something. For me, I am down to usually one show a year, and it continues to be a show I truly look forward to seeing, along with catching up with folks. I certainly try to keep things less complicated now that I am fast approaching middle age. ;-)

No idea what he means by "the masses of King Crimson soundalikes". Deluded twaddle.
Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.

Wow, strange times. Trevor Rabin was once the Anti-Christ in Yes fandom but now is praised, while the once sainted Steve Howe is vilified. End Times surely.

Yup, Steve is really good at deluded these days.

Me neither tbh, King Crimson are a pretty unique band.

What did you think of Mirror to the Sky, Ash? I've loved it personally.

It’s all about the music, dude. If it blows and isn’t up to par with Yes standards, then both Trevor and Steve and all hero worshipping fans need to put their big girl and big boy pants on and take the rose colored glasses off.

I'm guessing he meant to say "....these last TWO albums". QUEST was hit and miss, but still a vast improvement over Heaven and Earth. And I haven't even heard MTTS yet, though I still love reading what people are saying about it.

I'm not a fan of the current Yes at all ( musicaly or philosophically) , but I have to give Steve his due - he is doing a decent job of running the band and you can't deny his enthusiasm and commitment to it at the moment.
