  • Anderson-Howe

Although Steve has been firmly committed to YES with new album and tour to follow, would you prefer this current lineup to a HYPOTHETICAL Anderson-Howe acoustic tour, or vice versa? I realize time and desire of any sort of an Anderson-Howe reunion is running out but as Jon often says about things never say never.
Personally, I would prefer seeing Jon and Steve without carrying the YES name and I bet the duo would sell very well. Alas, am I just dreaming here?

There are some things I would like to happen with Yes - and one of them surely is that Steve and Jon will be in the band together again. Yes needs some friction to be as good as they can be in a special moment of time. Steve should know that. The actual Yes though seems to be the the most cosiest one ever - and well, such is the music, somewhat nice but far away from the beauty and the beast-character of great or just really good Yesmusic.

I would like if Steve would take the challenge again to mess with Jon. Maybe they get along better than they think, but that special combinantion could anyway let some sparks fly, again. Without expecting some first classs masterpiece, but some music that is as good as it can get now.

          I prefer the current lineup.
"A lot of the heavier conversations I was having with Chris toward the end were about his desire for this thing to go forward. He kept reiterating that to me. [...] He kept telling me, 'No matter what happens, Yes needs to continue moving forward and make great music. So promise me that that's something you want to do.'. And I have to keep making music. It's just what I do. [...] I'm a fan of the band and I want to see it thrive and that means new music." -Billy Sherwood

Nope. Happy with current lineup. Esp. after TQ and the desire to play R next year. Jon A can stick to chanting in SLO and gigging with teenagers with added bass slapping.

I think indeed you're dreaming about Anderson/Howe acoustic would sell at all… They might sell out my bedroom closet, but the concession stand is terrible…

I'm not sure if "friction" is quite it, here… Were TYA, Fragile, CTTE, GFTO full of friction? I think rather that the best Yes music came when they didn't have any other outlets, and so they poured everything they had into the Yes album of the moment, whether that was CTTE or 90125 (yes, Anderson had a passable solo career by then, but he also came in at the very end)… Of course, I find The Ladder and Magnification pretty great too, and they certainly had other options, but something in the moment brought the band together in a way to really play off of each other. No reason at all the current band can't do that, other than, well, geography and pandemics.

if Anderson has any role in a future Yes I imagine it will be as a guest a la the Hall of Fame appearance.

I don't neccessarily mean the big-bang-friction like after Tormato or after Big Generator. In the 70s when they made the most of their most important albums there was artistc rivalry. Like Bill Bruford I think said - it wasn' quite what one thinks boygroups are behaving with each others. I think there was creative rivalry/friction in the making of Yes-West as well, Trevor Horn just for example forcing them to get his will concerning Owner. It wasn't mostly one guy alone streering the boat like it seems to be today. One could argue about the situation while making Talk, for sure an album that ws mainly driven by Trevor (despite Andersons input). That one then just worked as kind of a one-man-show, very well, indeed :-)

If it ever happens they should do the acoustic tales

They would not do OYE PT.2 and you know that But as I would wish Billy playing with them, a little OYE-ingrediant would not be bad at all. Anyway, to me everything would be better than the current lineup, sorry to say. Add a good songwriter like Tom Brislin to Steve, Jon and Billy and you might get even a really decent album.

Mmm, that's an interesting notion. What have you the idea?

Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it’s been.
