The ever "tolerant" Geoff Downes strikes again.

While looking to see if Downes tweeted anything about the death of Monkman, I found one of his latest tweets. Maybe Geoff would advocate the term "yuppet" over people's personal choice of pronouns.

Unbelievable that Downes or anyone else thinks its okay to disrespect someone who wants to be referred to in a certain way, with a certain pronoun.

My preferred pronoun is King. Got that?!

The pronoun thing while it might be relevant to the younger generation, and politically correct for some who find it utterly ridiculous, but want to keep their jobs, is bullocks. You have a name you want to go by, by all means, tell people what you want to be called. Problem solved, move ahead.

Went to an awards ceremony for my daughter’s Academy school last week. Perhaps a lot has to do with the Internet empowering folks, which I have no problem with for the most part and life is short, and you should be who you want to be, within reason, but I observed more than a few young people with psychological issues that they will never get over. I wish those people the best. Some of the ROTC candidates, well, I can tell keeping future secrets and intelligence will not be in their wheelhouse. It is a changing world. I just want people to be safe and mentally healthy. No one will ever get everything in life. Life is and can certainly be full of disappointments. If however, anyone wrongly feels that everyone should accept them for who they are, that never really happens for anybody. And, it is unrealistic.

Knowing Geoff is a shit-disturber of the highest order, this doesn't surprise me at all. Full of bad takes, prime Dad Twitter.

This isn't a bad take. Hopefully the teacher was banned for more than saying, "well done, girls."

Apparently this is a case where the teacher accumulated sufficient offenses, including supposed Islamophobia. Twitter is all about black-and-white headlines, so it sounds like he made one innocent mistake and had his career destroyed by PC culture.

After reading the full article, it's clear that this teacher has a history of disrespecting LBGT students. They are extremely vulnerable youth. Any teacher who disrespects them deserves to be fired immediately.
              PERIOD.

I hope he is absolutely seething and this ruins his day. It's embarrassing to see "political commentator" in his profile with takes like this.

I don't expect people to understand, but I wish they would. It comes across as unbelieveable entitlement, to be unwilling to bend your frigging pronoun use, in order to relieve another person's torment. But I recognize it is ignorance.

And just who is the arbiter of what is 'within reason' then?

Here's how I see it; if for instance a person who identifies as nonbinary, wishes me to use the pronouns they/them/their what do I exactly lose by complying? Does my life suddenly change for the worse? Do I wake up the next morning with leprosy?

Nope, I lose completely zilch by doing so, while the person wanting me to use those pronouns feels way better if I do. To me that seems an awfully small thing to do to make another person happy.

Downes was involved in seemingly the biggest meltdown in internet history between the band and fans, the breakup of Asia with John Payne, to form "original Asia". ...man that was something else.

                          This was a good meltdown.

I don’t know what Geoff’s position on transgendered persons is, but I’m sure he’s not transphobic.
Words have definitions and meanings. ‘They’ refers to the plural. Grammatical pronouns he and she are associate with biological sex. To say someone has a male or female identity is fine regardless of their biological sex, especially if they suffer from gender dysphoria. We should be honest with definitions, and come up with new ones, if needed to avoid confusion, and show charity.

I'd definitely say this more recent take is worst, albeit much less detailed.
